yeah, got stopped early. manfredo wasn't throwing but he wasn't totally out of it, still moving and dodging calzaghes flurry of fists

i think calzaghe would of won pretty soon after anyway!

got tonkaed wrote:calzaghe needs to fight kessler next really...though if he got a shot at taylor that would probably be a brillant move for him. Taylor even after 3 fights with Emanuel Steward does not have the boxing skills necesary to fight against joe. Unless joe pulls a winky wright and decides to box on the exact terms that help taylor.

kessler isn't available in july (calzaghe needs to fight now at his age) so he is looking for taylor instead

it probably could happen between taylor and calzaghe as taylor is an HBO guy and appears HBO is moving toward calzaghe as well. Heres why i dont like the idea of the calzaghe needs to fight someone in july and if kessler isnt ready he should take taylor...well if joe fights in july hes probably not ready till november? well kesslers going to have to fight between now and then probably so when exactly do you find them on the same timetable? The kessler fight should be the next one for joe its been far too long as it is.

He'd have had a bit of a nibble on his welsh ears, that's for sure.

i'd imagine the reason kessler can't do july is because he already has a fight
calzaghe prob only has at most 5 fights left, so he has to take the best he can in the time available, he is 35 now

if calzaghe never fights kessler i will never be able to put him in as a hall of famer...its just too good of a fight to have never have had. On the same token im certainly not a hall of fame voter so he probably doesnt care much what i think.

Truth be told to make a calzaghe hopkins comparsion again...though i know its a bit silly, hopkins is in his 40s and finds ways to fight, joe can wait a month for kessler to get ready.

which is why if calzaghe did fight hopkins and win, people would just cite hopkins age and say that hopkins would of won in his prime!

really its more of an argument for the fact that joe has enough time to be able to wait till august for what would be an enormous fight both for his legacy and for europe.

Still i think bernard could get joe even if they fought today. Hopkins fights exceptionally well at his own pace and even though joe has the ability to get into his own rhythm as well i dont know if he wouldnt get frusterated by hopkins boxing ability.

i hope that calzaghe can get the taylor, kessler, hopkins in the ring - it would certainly go some way to assuage the doubts in america over his opponents

if joe went and beat 2 out of those 3 he probably could and should be seen as a top 2 or 3 lb for lb fighter and would go down with quite a legacy if that was the end of his career....however given joes capacity throughout his career to not exactly end up in these big fights....i would say its somewhat questionable this ever happens. Still i hope it does, he certainly has a shot to beat every one of those three, hes a really good fighter.

he was a little dirty with some of the shots to the back of the head, but what can you say, hes beaten the other top guys in the division now and he did it pretty impressively tonight. I think if kessler could have fought more of the fight like he did in rd 12 it might have been different, but Joe had a big part in that.

Hes gotta be at least a top 5 p4p fighter in the world and you could certainly make an argument for top 3.

Great fight. Thought Kessler might take it a couple of times... But Calzaghe really deserves to be at the top. He's a brilliant fighter.

he is....and as time passes and he starts to fight some of the other established names in the division, his status really rises. The problem might be, hes gonna have to decide between staying in his pond and fighting a few more fights then maybe retiring, or coming stateside, and not having the great support he gets at home.

The only guy i can think of who would come over there, thats a big name, is kelly pavlik...and hes not that big of a name yet. Still hes tailormade for joe, and if he doesnt stop him, calzaghe could pick up another nice notch down the line.

I'm fairly sure from the after fight interview he's gonna come state-side and move up a class. I don't know if HBO got it, but on our coverage he basically said 'You aint seen nothing yet...'

:D
