Thats your idea of history all over, really Norse.

His lineage is well documented. He was a Carolingian (after Charles Martel). He has a well documented Frankish lineage. Arnulf of Metz is, I think, the earliest ancestor if particular importance.

Okay...
A theory that I have heard (but haven't been able to find much of anything on) is one where the Carthiginians were the first people to sail over to North America from the Mediterranean/European world. Thoughts on this?

he does and i think there was another similar type of theory published pretty recently claiming that the Chinese may have reached North America during Zheng He's era. I thought the title of the book was 1491 but im probably quite wrong about that.

Either way, i dont think people thought it was very credible, even though the chinese fleets at the time were probably the best in the world.

Considering they were the same people and that Carthage was the last hold out of them, yes.

I bought that book last year and never read it. Started it on the plane then fell asleep. Might dip into it again.

As for the Phoenician argument, theres very little evidence for that really other than proving that they technically could have made the journey (as in had the skills and technology to). Its hard enough to convincingly argue that they reached Cornwall, let alone did a Columbus.

I know, it was just a theory I heard.

I'll give another question.

Do you think that there are many generals that can compare to Alexander the Great (III) of Macedon? I can think of a few that come close, but not really any on the same level.

Do you not think the History Faculty thread might be a better place for this? Just to stop Twill from raging... (hint hint)...

Leave this one to Norse's rantings...

Hannibal. Robert Lee. Napoleon.
All three would have given Alex a run for his money.
