It's a combo of:

Snape kills dumbledore from Harry Potter.

Trinity screws up Neo in the second Matrix. Basically, he saves her, so he cant kill the "creator" of the matrix.

And rosebud is the name of the sled, the most prized passion, in Citizen Kane.

All three were some of the worst/best twists in story telling. Well, in terms of the impact they had to the general idiot population of the world.
