OK, it's official, he doesn't believe any of the crap he's spouting. This doesn't even have a Liberal on drugs bias to it. He just knows that he pisses people by posting this. Also, fact: people that don't like sports more often than not suck ass at them.

Let's take this in a different direction. Chomsky's comments from Manufacturing Consent for your perusal:

Take, say, sports -- that's another crucial example of the indoctrination system, in my view. For one thing because it -- you know, it offers people something to pay attention to that's of no importance. That keeps them from worrying about things that matter to their lives that they might have some idea of doing something about. And in fact it's striking to see the intelligence that's used by ordinary people in discussions of sports as opposed to political and social issues. I mean, you listen to radio stations where people call in -- they have the most exotic information and understanding about all kind of arcane issues. And the press undoubtedly does a lot with this.

You know, I remember in high school, already I was pretty old. I suddenly asked myself at one point, why do I care if my high school team wins the football game? I mean, I don't know anybody on the team, you know? I mean, they have nothing to do with me, I mean, why I am cheering for my team? It doesn't mean any -- it doesn't make sense. But the point is, it does make sense: it's a way of building up irrational attitudes of submission to authority, and group cohesion behind leadership elements -- in fact, it's training in irrational jingoism. That's also a feature of competitive sports. I think if you look closely at these things, I think, typically, they do have functions, and that's why energy is devoted to supporting them and creating a basis for them and advertisers are willing to pay for them and so on.

Well he is really good. But I think that he became very sloppy as he got elected to Croatian Parliament. He went for nose surgery recently and he's preparing for re-election and some fight in December i think...

i think crocop might be pretty close to done....he doesnt look very comfortable in the cage in any of his fights, and if a guy like kongo can out strike him....thats not a good referendum on where your at in your career.

i mean i think he can be competitive with pretty much any one they put him in with in the ufc. However unless he gets mentally prepared, who is he really going to be able to beat. Alot of those guys are more grapplers than strikers, so if he fights disheartened, which it seems like his last 2 fights have been....hows he gonna stay off the ground?

Well his main problem is that he has been preparing for fight on the ground for the last couple of years (mostly Tai Chi, for the fight against Minotaur) and he didn't pay much attention to his strong side that is fighting in stand up position.
And yes, the cage isn't his natural habitat.

You are right. He needs to get really prepared to beat other fighters. If he gets better after surgery, gets (proper) training and gets strong (again) mentally he can still become UFC Champion.

I ain't a big sports fan (even though I played football in HighSchool). I don't memorize sport hilights, players names and stats, and go out of my way to watch any game. I don't have a favorite sports team and I do not own any sports memorabilia. But, however, I enjoy watching a game with my Dad every once in a while. I am not totally against sports like Xtra, but I am not sportoholic. I could easily live my life without watching any sports. It only seems to be a filler between males so we don't have to preoccupy ourselves with talking about politics and religion all the time. But I do enjoy being able to watch baseball and football games with my Dad while he is still alive.

OK guys here's the deal. Flaming "sports" isn't allowed in flame wars, so people like xtra are forced to bring their "discussions" here to the clubhouse. Don't let the skewed views he's posting here incite you to flame or you'll be getting a warning like some of you in this thread have already. Keep it civil.

IMO, SPORTS RULEZ and xtra is just jealous he's not making the salaries people gifted with, or those who have worked to get, above average athletic ability, and possess the wherewithall to use that to their advantage.

yes indeed, and I love PLAYING sports. I pitched, played soccer, football, basketball, tennis, volleyball and even track and field in high school. One of my best days was striking out the star senior baseball player in front of the coach when I was just a freshman.

but groveling to sportos is crazy in these times. The individual that wicked says im jelouse over is not loyal to any town and some rape, kill and molest children while there out making millions.

not my heros, in fact there disgusting, and while we got a war going on, very inapropriate as well.

Rasheed says NBA "wanted'' Cavs, LeBron in finals
Saturday, Oct 27, 2007 7:09 am EDT

It may have only been the end of the exhibition season, but Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace was in mid-season form.

"I still don't think they (Cavaliers) beat us, we beat ourselves," Wallace said. "And I think we also fell victim to that personal NBA thing where they are trying to make it a world game and get (television) ratings. They wanted to put their darling in there (the NBA Finals) and they did, and look what ended up happening.

"This game ain't basketball anymore, it's entertainment," Wallace said. "It's starting to get like the WWF. There ain't no real wrestling anymore either. It's all fake."
