Ten minutes also compensates for technical difficulties (I have been forced to restart my computer in at least three separate speed games, and I think the restart cost me the game in at least two of them).
For the record, I voted for five minutes.
I think that this is the design or purpose of a speed game. It's supposed to be Real Time. If you had to go to the bathroom in the middle of a fight - would the other person say "okay I'm not going to hit you while you do that" *lol* I doubt it.
I haven't played that many speed games, but at least 3 have gone for more than 2 hours. I've only had 2 times where I effectively ran out of time (one due to eliminating person A and not having enough time to eliminate person B and one because I forgot it was a speed game and wasn't using Auto-Attack!).
The extension for an elimination is a good thing (because once you eliminate them - you've effectively shortened the rest of the game). As for a once per hour poker style break, I think it would be okay. I know, that goes against what I said earlier - but everyone knows about it [kind of like between rounds in a boxing match]. Actually, I think the break should only apply if no one was eliminated during that hour.
I voted for 3 mins, but would be fine with 2.5 mins for the extension. The only time you need more than that is on a LARGE map like Pearl Harbor or World 2.1.
