Telling your girlfriend really depends on her personality type. Most girls would probably react reasonably to news like this but I do know of a couple of kids in my grade whose girlfriend went psycho for less than this. Though unless you think she might blow up on you it's better to tell her.

static has a point there. And so do others, like Norse's of them being territorial. A friend of mine (who happens to be a girl) has admitted as much to me, as have others. Also, try to introduce them and get them to become friends, or at least on friendly terms.

From a womans point of view, I have had many friends that were male, and they all end up trying to f*ck me. As for your live in girlfriend, YOU are in a committed relationship, if you don't want to be in it, you shouldn't be sniffing around and getting to know other girls. I am telling you, it doesn't matter if you have things in common or not. AS soon as the the wind blows in the lower direction you will want to have sex. The new friendship is fun because all new things are exciting.

Don't go out with other girls behind your girlfriends back!!! Even if you don't f*ck, she will still be pissed, because intimacy is not just about sex. If you hook those two girls up, or your girlfriend finds out, she will always be wondering if your cheating and it will cause stress on your relationship.
