Speed Game Break

Postby hecter on Fri Oct 12, 2007 4:57 pm

<Subject>:

* Concise Idea: Just give us a 10 or 15 minute break every hour or so in a speed game. Give us time to grab something to eat, have a cigarette, get a drink, or just stretch our legs.

<Body>:

* Suggestion Idea: 15 minute break for speed games
* Specifics: Again, after an hour, and the last person has finished their turn, just give us a 15 minute break and then have the game start up where it left off.
* Why it is needed: Because I'm thirsty and my legs are sore, damnit!

I think turn time limits should simply be increased. Five minutes is ridiculous. You can't get anything done in the later stages of a game, especially on the bigger maps and especially if the game is escalating. You are tethered to your computer the entire time - I'm worried to use the bathroom in a 1v1 Speed game because I might miss a turn. Ten minutes is perfectly reasonable for a limit and I'm sure it wouldn't cause any problems.

That doesn't cover freestyle games though.

How long would the freeze last? Would the game be picked up again at some point? What if some guy wants to be an ass and never hits the button? What if one person really needs a cigarette or has to pee or SOMETHING?

10 or 15 minutes, there's a little window or a warning that says something like "A break will start in 2 minutes" and then, when the break starts, the map could be dimmed down, and it could say "You are on break. The game will resume in XX minutes.". After the time is up, the game starts again, so you'll have to plan your break wisely, as not to miss a turn.

Change the way speed time limit is used.

Postby azdragon on Sun Oct 14, 2007 3:57 pm

Well the point of a speed game is to make people move fast, but honestly for a big move there simply is not enough time. Increasing the amount of time will allow for people to move slower, so there has to be a solution to this, and I KNOW what is it!

I play another turn based game called pente on pente.net. They have speed games and in their speed games it adds 5 seconds each time you make an action. Here we could add 7 seconds or so each time the user sends the server a command, like auto attack, or advance, or deploy or fortify. As long as the user is still there doing something he should be given time to carry out his plan. Tell me what you think.

I'm not talking about adding time to a turn, I'm talking about having a break every hour where there is no play at all.

Ya, but in a 5 person Freestyle RT that's been going on for over an hour, you get thirsty or need to go pee or something, so a 10, 15 minute break would be greatly appreciated in such a circumstance. I've seen RT's go 6 hours before, I'm sure they would have LOVED to have a break.
