Fear of Losing

Postby comic boy on Sat Oct 06, 2007 2:34 am

I think one of the reasons that so many of the top players quit is that they reach a point where the fear of losing overides the joy of winning.
Its a great feeling to first reach Captain/Major/Colonel but as the points get scarcer the games get that much more intense and to be frank a lot of the fun evaporates. I know that many will say that its just a game that should be played for fun and points/rank dont matter, but the truth is that
it does matter to the more competetive players and they are the ones who rise to the top

STFU playing against lower ranks is way more fun because of the risk and also playing in a game where if you win you get loads of points it gets way more intense.

The point is that once you get to Major and higher there are never games where you win loads of points, just games where you can lose a lot.
I got to the point in 6 player games where I would win 70 points and lose 30 and that was against players averaging 27/ 2800 points so all tough people to beat !

euh i say one thing:
learn to live without points, ok its fun to get points but you want to stup because you lose points? its for the game you know not for the points, otherwise i would quited long ago my score is always between 1200-1400 but i have now a completly new strategy wich seems to work most of the time so maybe i get that 1400 rank finely a second time

Comic's right I think. I'm a mere captain and although I still enjoy trying to out-fox my fellow captains, I do get frustrated by the points roller coaster. As I indicated in another thread, some of us want to see steady progress up, and watching oneself hit the same ceiling and the same floor over and over can cause a degree of mental anguish.

I'd like to have the option to play against my CC friends where no points are on the line. Kind of a "friendly" match. They'd be just as competitive I believe, but a lot more fun since a huge load would be removed.

The previous poster does have a point about the "thrill" of playing unpredictable noobs as well. Man, how long has it been since I opened a game to the general population...?

Fear of losing? Poppycock! there's always more games.

Stupid gameplay is a bigger horror, as I've lost two games in a row where I held S.America on W 2.1
and someone decided to break me instead of the 40+ bonus of the Asia/Oceania occupant.

and at least a virgin still has something to look forward to.

I hear you comic, but you've been the the top and don't have to proove yourself anymore. So forget about the points and just play for fun!

As for me, as I climb the ranks I find myself being more selective in the games I join for the very reason you describe.
Let's golf.

I agree with the friendly match idea, or once you reach a certain rank you can set points on your own games.

I don't think it's fear of losing.... it's the bad streaks.... i usually hang arround 2300-2800. It seems once i reach 2700 dice AND deploy are just gone. It gets frustrating after a while and it makes you wanna quit.

+comic is not leaving he is never been so active in forums since he stopped. He is an addict like most of us.

Ps Risk go to Siam with Joe and comic, maybe that can solve your 'little' problem.
