Metallica, despite St. Anger, should win.

Their earlier work such as Master of Puppets and the like was easily amongst the greatest in Metal.

well i was watching a megadeth video on youtube...this was one of the comments:

mettalica is good the the ear, with riffs and voice and simultaneous bangung and staff, but if your an instrument player, specially a guitar player, you'll understand why megadeth is way much better. Mettalica will make you pick up an instrument, but megadeth will make you hold on to it.

I think that speaks for itself.

Metallica - Megadeth is following them. Although sweating bullets was pretty interesting.

Metallica by far. Megadeth puts way too much effort into trying to make their lyrics deep, political, and meaningful, it just comes off as stupid. "United Abominations" is one of the greatest musical embarrassments in the history of mankind (here I'm referring to the song, not the album, the latter of which wasn't too bad...)

For Whom the Bell Tolls is easily one of my favorite songs.
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."

meh, I don't care about lyrics, so it doesn't matter for me. Most of my lyrics that I make up are random trash. ;)

but from what I've read of their lyrics, when I think about it, they aren't bad, and do have a meaning, but meh.

Well to me they just sound dumb when they're sung. I mean, if you take Megadeth lyrics and just read them like paragraph I guess it wouldn't be too bad, but when it's sung in a heavy metal song it's just kinda ridiculous.

Political songs never really tickle my fancy. To be fair, I'm not much of a fan of Metallica's "...And Justice for All" either.

meh also to be fair, as I said I don't really pay attention that much to them. I'm not a fan of many lyrics or their topics, death, politics, love, partying, and all those stuff that are said in lyrics don't interest me. Now there are some few songs that have awesome lyrics in my opinion. ;)

Metallica,

Didn't they both come out about the same time? When the Black album came out, Metallica took that leap ahead of Megadeath. Before that, that sounded about the same to me.

They were founded practically at the same time.

The lead for Megadeth used to be in Metallica, until they kicked him out.

That's the main problem wityh megadeth, the frontman is practically the reincarnation of Joseph Stalin. He kicks members out for the smallest reasons because for a while he was a drunk. Then he got fixed up in rehab.

Eh, I still like them, some maybe similar, but their last album, "Stiff Upper Lip" was a Jazz album.

I must say that as a guitarist, I appreciate Megadeth's music a lot more. That and Metallica got really old after a while. With only 5 albums that I consider tolerably good (and I didn't care much for ...and Justice for All), there's a limited amount one can listen to it.

Plus, Megadeth is way heavier.
