Gay: Originally meant Happy, but now can mean homosexual or another insult

it is because in the 30s a writer in a newspaper was writing about homosexuals and used the term "gay men" so as not to offend anyone, and the term stuck

tho its not much of an insult today...

aye...

I've got a mate who said f*ck originally meant "fornication under consent of the king" but anyone who suggests medieval acronyms is an idiot in my book/

I heard from... sources... that it started from the german word "frichen" (sp?) which means "to strike"

Faggot: Meant pile of sticks, means above now.
Dumb: Actually means deaf/mute/blind but now is taken as an insult

Why did these words change and how?

Or another insult? I thought more of you than this Skittles. What's is wrong with being homosexual? I don't consider it an insult, and when I do hear people use in an insulting way, I can generally tell they're homophobic bigots, or just ignorant. Same thing really.

Yeah, you seem to have taken it the wrong way. I'm not a bigot, and there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. I wasn't meaning it as an insult, but people do say it as an insult, which I find ludicrous.

It's really sickening that the government can't handle a few thousand Buddhists and civilians protesting for more human rights, so they just either beat them, shoot them, or take them away :(
I think we could all take a lesson from Nicolo Machiavelli's The Prince for things like this.

I think only a homosexual would think you were being insulting skittles. They are very sensitive it anybody says anything, Just like 20 years ago, if someone asked a question about how the word nigger came about.

In time the wound will heal. And when someone asks the same question as you raised they won't think nothing of it, except how strange, nasty, and wrong homophobes and bigots are.

Basically the same thing, also, I am a bastard child who doesn't even know what his father looks like. :?

This entire conersation proves that the english language is a load of shite.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.
