Core is best value for money if you just are a regular user. the more hardcore you go the higher you should go.

Honestly, if you are gonna sink your money into a gaming console, it is best to just buy the most expensive package to start with.

On the other hand, as time goes on, prices for each accessory will drop, so if you aren't into instant gratification, it would be better to buy the smallest package, just so you could play, and accumulate the accessories as time goes by and prices go down.

Absolutely do not get the core. You get nothing to save on so you can't have a profile, play online, or save your games. I have the premium and it's not a horrible price and has a more than big enough hard drive. The only difference between the premium and the elite is a bigger hard drive for lots more money. The 20 gig hard drive in the premium is fine unless you're going to store every video/demo/song etc. of yours on your xbox.

I made a joke I would have made about anyone who said "you gotta go for a small package". And you freaked out. Anyways the elite is where it's at. Even for casual users anyone could use the hd space for movies and shit.

DVD players can store movies (well the one I have does). Plus how many times will you want to watch a movie (other than the great ones like Rocky)

basically, what i really need to know, is a) will the premiums 20gb hard drive be enough for a casual gamer and b) is there any other obvious benefits of the elite

If you have to buy one, buy the cheapest, spend your money on more important things.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.
