Suggestion: Deletion of speed games

Postby poo-maker on Tue Sep 18, 2007 10:25 am

<Subject>:

The deletion of speed games if they haven't been filled after 15 minutes.

<Body>:

* Suggestion Idea: To lengthen the time that a speed game can be in the join a game section from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

* Why it is needed: A couple times now, games that i have set up have been deleted before they have been filled. These games were all 6 player freestyle speed games. Can we please change this setting so that people will have time to join in the future?

There was some discussion about this a few days ago. One idea was that a certain number of minutes are added everytime someone joins, but perhaps a simple increase in length would be sufficient.

But the reason it is 15 currently is to make sure that all the speed games...are live...to make sure that the people are there. If they have to wait too long, some may wander off...etc.

I did join poo.

i think i prefer the idea of adding a couple of minutes each time someone joins... lots can happen in 30 mins and i reckon you'd get more Dead-beats

perhaps make speed games expire like this:

2p - 5 minutes
3p - 10 minutes
4p - 15 minutes
5p - 20 minutes
6p - 25 minutes

Yeah if you're not careful here you could create a game - and before you realise it's started you've DB'd out of it and thrown some points away!!!

I like the idea of increasing time per players - and also the reset the clock everytime someone joins idea!!

Maybe make it 3 mins. having to wait 25 mins for a SPEED game to begin seems silly to me.

Something like this would be good,as a 2 player speed game does not take 5 minutes to fill.

2p - 3 minutes
3p - 6 minutes
4p - 9 minutes
5p - 12 minutes

Except, the original post was about 15 minutes being too short... your 3 minute method results in 15 minutes.

Remember, you wouldn't HAVE to wait 25 minutes, its just that 25 minutes would be the longest you'd have to wait if all six slots didn't fill sooner.

I can make it delay the deletion if all players are still online.

Ooh. Witchcraft.

That actually sounds like a really good idea.

Trouble is, a speed game GARURANTEES and RT now. For impatient people like me, at least, that is the point of them. A player might waltz away from his PC, while still logged on and have tea.

The idea of, maybe 3 minutes, being added on to the game each time a player join is quite good. so for a 6 player game, there would be a max wait of 18 mins.

if you just wanted a 2 player, it would start in 3 mins, or not happen.

I find it complicated to have different times.

By "still logged in", I meant according to the forum i.e. based on users active over the past five minutes

genius, i can't think of a plausible argument against it.

edit: except Rocketry's..... could you put an alarm in to tell a logged-in player when it's our go?

Perfect work...

Would it then delete "As soon as" someone was inactive for 5 mins?

Or is the deletion run on a batch basis and it would be every minute of so?

The delete is run each time someone views the join speed game page
