Does money equal power?

Postby Binded Soul on Mon Sep 03, 2007 3:13 pm

I was just looking at the scoreboards the other day I noticed that most of the members near the top are premium. This got me thinking, do those who have money to spend become powerful? What do you think?

If it was REAL war, then yep.
CC war, nope.
I'm back after an all too long hiatus.
Real life sure knows how to intervene.

Do you mean within the site or in general?

Premium= More games, which usually means an overall gain in points.

IRL= Influence, time to focus on other, more ambitious things than how to make the next car payment, etc.

I'd say those with dispensable income have a greater capacity to become powerful, although they still need that inner quality to pull it off.

How would the answer possibly be "No"?

premium=more games
more games=a faster way to boost points
or
more games=a faster way to lose points, as the case seems to be for me. :(
"Eh, whatever."

Beauty is power the same way money is power the same way a gun is power.

Whoops, this isn't a pontification thread. Oh and yeah. Though it's not a lot of cash, I doubt you could find a better use for £10 consider you get a ton of entertainment all year.

Those who are at the top of the scoreboard have premium because they are either really good, or play way too many games *cough* JR *cough*. So its only natural of them to buy premium

Power is simply the ability to manipulate things, usually people. Society is now structured in such a fashion so that money is by definition power, however it is not intrinsically so, as its power only lasts as long as the ideologies behind it do. Even now there are certain instances where other ideological constructs hold more sway, such as morality; and certain tasks which money is useless in accomplishing (can't buy me love).

In short, generally yeah, but not definitively.

As for CC specific, money will get you up there faster but it'll take skill either way.

QFT. Pretty much what I was thinking.

I votes no btw, because money is only power is certain areas, not everywhere.

No. Resources are power. Money can be used to buy resources, but it doesn't necessarily follow that money is power. You might be the wrong resources, for example.

It should also be said that beauty, charisma, influence and skill are other sources of power - although it's not limited to those

Money gives you freedom of choice, what you choose to do with it will determine your future. Extreme poverty on the other hand means that your future is pretty much dependent on the whims of others, the vagaries of nature or.if you like,Gods will.

What certain areas?

On romance/love, in certain areas of politics, in war, in friendship. Money does help, but money alone could never make you better in these areas. How you are personally is more important then the amount of money you have.

1. money can buy u love, its love as long as there is money

2. politics is all about money, there is no place in politics where money does not influence it

3. war is all about money, if ur army is broke with no money for provisions, weapons, vehicles, tanks, and my army is rich and can buy nukes, i think u have enough common sense to see who would win in a fight (thats assuming u have any common sense, but i might be thinking too higlhly of u if i based my thinking on ur post)

4. friendship is similar to love, its there as long as the money is coming in.

Money can't buy you affection stemming from something other than money. i.e. real affection.
