on another games website i play, they arrange meet ups, i dunno what people would think about them but i didn't know if something like that happened

It's generally a more popular event in 'closed' communities or the like. Examples would be gaming guilds or private message boards.

And the vast majority of them are actually people getting together and having a good time, not 50 year old men stalking 12 year old boys.
