introduce a band

Postby Simonov on Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:27 am

i made this thread so anyone who likes can introduce his favorite not so widely known band.this is mine:

LAIBACH

Image

Laibach is a Slovenian experimental music group, strongly associated with industrial, martial, and neo-classical. Laibach formed June 1, 1980 in Trbovlje, Slovenia. Laibach represents the music wing of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) art collective, of which it was a founding member in 1984. The name "Laibach" is the German name for Slovenia's capital city, Ljubljana.

Image

Laibach has frequently been accused of both far left and far right political stances due to their use of uniforms and totalitarian-style aesthetics and also due to the Wagnerian influence found in some of their music, notably the thunder in "Sympathy for the Devil (Time for a Change)" and releases such as Macbeth. They were also accused for being members of the neonationalism movement which reincarnates modern ideas of nationalism. Laibach always denied this strongly, pointing out that, as fascism needs a scapegoat, they had become their own scapegoat in the name of satire. Milan Fras, vocalist, is quoted as saying "We are fascists as much as Hitler was a painter" when confronted with such accusations

The popular German musical group Rammstein has acknowledged influence by both the aesthetic approach and some Laibach material. When members of Laibach were asked by an interviewer about Rammstein "stealing" from them, they responded that "Laibach does not believe in originality… Therefore, Rammstein could not 'steal' much from us. They simply let themselves get inspired by our work, which is absolutely a legitimate process. We are glad that they made it. In a way, they have proven once again that a good 'copy' can make more money on the market than the 'original.' Anyhow, today we share the territory: Rammstein seem to be a kind of Laibach for adolescents and Laibach are Rammstein for 'grown-ups.'"

here are some videos and lyrics:

Wir alle sind besessen
Wir alle sind verflucht
Wir alle sind gekreuzigt
Wir alle sind kaputt
Von Reiztechnologie
Von Zeitekonomie
Von qualitaet das Lebens
Und Kriegsphilosophie

Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Bruederchen, komm tanz mit mir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Beide Haende reich ich dir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Meine Freunde, tanz mit mir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Rundherum, das ist nicht schwer

Wir tanzen Ado Hinkel
Benzino Napoloni
Wir tanzen Schiekelgrueber
Und tanzen mit Maitreya
Mit Totalitarismus
Und mit Demokratie
Wir tanzen mit Fascismus
Und roter Anarchie

Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Kammerad, komm tanz mit mir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Beide Haende reich ich dir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Deutsches Volk, komm tanz mit mir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Rundherum, das ist nicht schwer

Wir tanzen und wir springen
Wir hupfen und wir singen
Wir fallen und erheben
Wir geben oder nehmen
Amerikano Freunde
Und Deutscher Kamerad
Wir tanzen gut zussamen
Wir tanzen nach Bagdad

Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Bruederchen, komm tanz mit mir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier
Beide Haende reich ich dir
Eins, zwei, drei, vier

DIE FREIHEIT IST NICHT MEHR FREI
STILL IST UNSER HERZ

DER MENSCH LIEGT IN GROSSER PEIN!
DER MENSCH LIEGT IN GROSSER NOT!
DIE ZEIT IST FAST HERAUS
UND UNSER SPIEL IST AUS

RAUS, DAS SPIEL IST AUS!
RAUS, DAS SPIEL IST AUS!

WAS ENTSTANDEN IST,
DAS MUSS VERGEHEN!
WAS VERGANGEN IST,
MUSS AUFERSTEHEN!

WO DER BOSE IST
UND WAS IST GOTT?
WER IST ZEITLOS
UND WER IST TOT?

WAS ZUSAMMEN IST
MUSS IN STUCKE GEHEN
UND WAS ALLEIN IST
MUSS SICH MULTIPLIZIEREN

WIR DER BOESE SIND

WIR SIND ZEITLOS
UND DU BIST TOT

You shall see Hell clear in the sky
You shall see darkness
You shall see good and evil
You shall see city walls crumble and towers fall

God is God
God is God
God

You shall see the Lord of Life and Death
You shall see Heaven in Hell
You shall be blinded by light
You shall see darkness

God is God
God is God
God

You shall see the walls crumble
Walls built of pain
And above the cries of man
Hear one voice saying:

I am Alfa and Omega
The begining and the end
I am the first and
I am the last

God is God
God is God
God

You shall see Hell
You shall see evil
You shall see darkness
You shall see sorrow
You shall see Death
You shall see God

Only one day is left
only one day
we are leaving the others
we're going away
Today we all steal
animals we are
possession is lost
Our souls are from the wild
and wings to reach the sky
let the sun fall into the ocean,
let the earth erupt in flame
It is enough to have the strength
and knowledge
to raise our dream machines
into the sky
Let them sleep who do not know
the final day is here
the very last
and we leave at dawn
Millions of machines on nitroglycerin
Thunder in us
There is no force no money and no power
To stop us now and change our fate
Before we rise
Now every problem is destroyed
We raise our hands and bodies to the peak
Into the Universe - towards the stars we go
Sending machines up to the sky

[Chorus]
Machines we are sending to the skies
Above us all
And leave behind those who don't know
Of the final day
We leave in sleep those who don't know
(and) we leave at dawn
We are driven by the B-machine
(Wild B-machine - that never stops)

CITIES

the amazon link I can't find any other links to this band, it is very new I guess

yeah so I found this band very recently I really love their style it is pretty unique for an indie band... calming and quiet but catchy at the same time...

one particular amazon review described as "dark and modern rock" so I guess that fits...

other than that I don't know anything about this band as I can't find anything but I do love all the songs that I can find

July for Kings is probably my favorite band that none of my friends had heard of prior to me telling them about it.

I heard one of their songs on the radio about 5 years ago, bought the CD, and still listen to it every once in awhile.

Grave Daddy and the Nippelbitches

It's a nonexistent band that hasn't been founded yet, but I have one of those patches you can sew to a jacket or something.

GLAD YOU LIKE THEM.

here are some interesting details about history of the band.

first frontman of laibach was charismatic Tomaž Hostnik (1961-1982) who had enormous influence on appearance, sound and attitude of the band.
Image
he was a band leader with strong and dynamic personality.he dominated both with his intellect and presence.he loved performing dressed in military outfits.
Image
one of theirs most famous concerts from that period was when they performed on New Rock festival in Križanke where the crowd started throwing bottles on them. One bottle hit Hostnik in face and cut his chin, he didn't even blink and resumed the concert while blood was pouring down his face.their performance was so impressive that other bands refused to play after them believing that their show can only end in anticlimax.

On December 21st 1982 Tomaž hanged himself from a kozolec - a type of hayrack distinctive to Slovenia just as he announced.

he wrote this before committing suicide:

Apologia Laibach

Since when, sons of truth, are you the brothers of night?
What colours your hands with the redness of blood?

The explosion in the night is the flower of woe,
nothing can be jusified by it.
The altar cannot be destroyed,
the altar of lies, that multiplies shapes.

The spotless picture, the painless lights,
the only harbours of the terrible night.

We are the children of the spirit and the brothers of strength,
whose promises are not fulfilled.
We are the black ghosts of this world,
we sing the mad image of woe.

The explanation is the whip and you bleed:

Break the mirror of the world for the hundredth time,-
all your efforts are in vain. We have overcome the night:
our debt has been paid
and the light is ours.

Cloud Cult is the best band to hit the scene in the 2000's in my opinion.

Image

Cloud Cult’s unique sound has been called “insane genius” by Pitchforkmedia and has been compared to Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel and Beck. Cloud Cult’s live shows include elaborate theatrics that include live painters on stage, live video projection of audience and band, and back screen video. The live band includes cello, violin, trumpet, flute and percussion, along with the more standard guitar, bass, keys and drums line-up.

Image

On top of all of this, Cloud Cult has rejected major label record offers in favor of staying independent, so the band can do everything as environmentally friendly as possible. This includes making every concert “green” by purchasing green energy credits to pump wind power into the grid to compensate for energy used on stage and in travel. The band’s self-founded record label, Earthology Records, has been covered in major media everywhere from National Public Radio to the New York Times as “the world’s most environmentally friendly not-for-profit record label.”

Image

Where did Cloud Cult Come from?According to founder, Craig Minowa, the shows he did prior to Cloud Cult's formation in the early 90s were oftentimes quite disappointing. "I remember playing at these small venues, and in between songs I would walk around the bar and hand out fact sheets on environmental issues. It was usually just older women and gentlemen that were regulars at the bar, so I'd hand them the fact sheet, and they'd just crinkle it up and throw it away. I think they were probably just there to get drunk, and didn't care about the message, but each to his own. They were nice folks, just on a different path." During that time, Minowa was pursuing his degree in Environmental Science, and for a paycheck, he was shining shoes, driving an ice cream truck, fixing toilets and dressing up as Barney the dinosaur at kids birthday parties. All the while, he volunteered for a variety of nonprofits ranging from Clean Water Action to Citizens for a Better Environment and Greenpeace. "I had a lot of unrealized dreams about bringing environmental education together with music and art."

if so here's another good band from nsk.

Borghesia is a Slovenian/Croatian electronic music / rock music group, created in Ljubljana in 1982. The band was formed by members of the alternative theatre group Theatre FV-112/15. Borghesia created its aesthetics using the imagery of prohibited, tabooed and repressed. Their sound is often compared to that of other groups in the period such as D.A.F., Manufacture and more notably Front 242, whom many cite as the chief instigators of the Electronic Body Music label used to describe such music.
