suggestion: subject line in game finder

Postby Cmdr. Peter on Mon Aug 06, 2007 7:33 pm

I far as I can tell, this hasn't been suggested yet: we could give the person who starts a new game the option to leave a line of text (like a subject line) describing how they would like the game to be played. Specifically, a lot of people seem to have ideas for new options, for example to bring back/ban double turns, to force real time games, etc. These are all great ideas, but it sounds like a lot of work for lackattack. On the other hand, if the game host simply puts "R/T" in the subject line, voila! People know what is expected of them, with no need to enforce it via programming. (sure, the odd person will ignore the stated request, but that's what feedback is for) One perk of this system is that it's very flexible: it supports all sorts of "optional rules", even ones that haven't been invented yet. It also would save the feedback moderators a lot of work: where now people leave negative feedback for differences of opinion ("player XYZ didn't play in the style I prefer!"), everyone could be right, and without complaint. Don't like r/t? Insist on it? No problem! Just announce it, and others will know what to expect.

it would be good to help find fast/slow games too. If you know you can only play once or twice a day you can warn others when creating a game. Want to play a fast/real time game? let people know your recruiting people to be active for a couple of hours.

The option of a text line has been rejected.

As for RT games, Speed Games are in the works.

It's too bad this isn't going to be done.

You could have a title of something like "US" or "At computer from 9am-5 PST" (for people like me sitting at a computer all day)
And while that certainly won't always get people to join who take turns at the same times as you, It helps.

Thats how I would make use of it.
