these 2 friends I had in middle school for some reason debated this subject constantly, from their standpoint I say AK, especially since the pros use it in CS :P

AK-47, it's sturdier, has a more impressive legacy, and it makes a nicer noise.

It's hard for me to say because I've never fired an AK before. But from what I know the AK would shoot even if you filled with sand. The M16, speaking from experience, although more accurate, jams quite a lot.

I'd say the AK wins but not by much.

The AK-47 looks cooler and it's Russian, so I picked it.

AK47 is lighter, better suited for close quarters. That's m'pick.

Wrong about the lighter thing. They weigh about the same. M16 is a bit lighter though

i personally prefer the AK-47 for its power, and in battle you usually always have some sort of back-up, i.e. in the form of snipers and other long range combatants.

clearly ak-47 much more resistant, works in tougher conditions than the m16 and if i'm not mistaking it has fewer parts.

Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikov model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the worlds most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.

the M16 is lighter, more accurate, can shoot farther, and can also shoot faster if the need be. However, it is true that the larger caliber bullets in the AK can prove more effective in close range (urban) combat.

The fact that M16's jam too often is over exaggerated though... It had issues in it's early stages true, but the kinks are well worked out now.

It's a close one for me, but I decided to add in the fact that M16's have a grenade launcher attachment, which lifts their bad ass level up a few more notches. M16 wins :D

The Ak-47 has an underslug grenade launcher? The Original M16A1 was a piece of shit.

Well, it would really depend on the environment for me. If I were in a large open are like a desert or plain I would say the M16. If you were in an urban area, close quarters or anywhere else I would go with the AK47. But I'm not an expert on this. I focus more on paramedics, incendiaries and explosives.

I had shot both AK47 and M16, in the range and live fire demonstrations. From my experience I can say that AK is more durable and can be jammed full of mud and still work, it's also is much easier to field strip. M16 is a fine gun, specially it's laser scope, it is also comparatively light.

The Avtomat Kalashnikov 1947 has durabilty and stopping power advantages. But is less accurate, doesn't have underslung grenade launcher capablity and low armor-piercing capability.

The Armalite AR-15 or M-16 Assault Rifle has advantages in accuracy, grenades and the 5.56mm ammuntion is used for high-velocity armor penetration (small calibur but with larger-than-normal charge equals better penetration).

Also consider: The AK-47 is generally used only by 'illregular forces': Terrorists, unorganized (and sometimes, illegitamate) militias and (eg: in the case of Vietnam), third-rate armies supplied by the Soviet Union/Russia. Most professional, first-rate armies, tend either to manufacture their own rifles or buy the american Armalite AR-15.

Sorry folks, the M-16 wins.
