Scoring System

Postby Raidon on Mon Jul 23, 2007 7:06 am

Suggestion Idea: New Weighted Scoring System

Specifics:

Currently the scoring system is (loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent. I propose a weighted scoring system. The formula will be
(Eliminated Order/Total Players)* (loser's score / winner's score) * Factor.

Therefore by this system in a 4 player game the person who gets out first will have 100% of the points deducted, the second person will have 75% of the points deducted and the 3rd person will have 50% of the points deducted. All points will be rounded off.
The winner will get less points than the current system allots however the factor can be changed from the current 20 to make up for this loss.

Why it is needed: This sytem will reward people who survive longer in the game. I believe that this will be more fair as they remain in the game longer.

In many escalating games, 3-5 players get eliminated in the same turn. You want to reward those who are taken out last because they lasted another 5 minutes?

6 player flat rate and no cards games will last forever. Nobody will attack, because of fear of weakening themselves. They know that if they stick around longer, they will lose less points.

I disagree... :?
This game was once fun, but the necessity to log in every day finally took its toll on me.

Best Score: 4660 (11/20/10)
Best Rank: 1 (8/2/13)

Point deductions

Postby bcopeland08 on Thu Jul 26, 2007 11:37 pm

Yeah, I don't think that would go over too well. I did read one suggestion for the points at the end of the game to be taken at the player's point level they were at when eliminated.

One of my first games on this site lasted about a month and a half. I was second to last to be eliminated and the game still went another few weeks. As a new recruit, if I were eliminated near the beginning of that game, I don't think it would be fair to take points from me at the end of the game as a Corporal.

before i came here, I played a realtime version of dicewars which scored based on where you finished up...
it certainly affected the dynamic of the game, since people were not necessarily trying to win (you could come about middle and get a positive result from the game)...

that said - could the scoring system be rejiggered to include some in-game elements... some ideas:

add 3 points for each territory gained, and add 2 points for each territory lost (thus rewarding people for being active and aggressive, but not rewarding suicides)

add a point for each turn that a territory or continent is held

of course, the formula points given to winners and taken from losers (2nd place is first loser, btw) would need to be revisited, too, but it does mean that, overall, you are rewarded for winning, and you are penalised for "tortoising" and not being active/aggressive and losing...
