a notification pm to everyone for updates, maybe email too

Postby static_ice on Sun Jul 22, 2007 10:41 pm

<Subject>:
Consise Idea: For each update each user gets a notification pm

<Body>:

Suggestion Idea: For all of those monthly (or so) updates and announcements that Lack puts on the first page, what if we all receive widely-distributed pm's, either telling about us directly what the new update is, or atleast giving a link to the thread about it.

Specifics: Maybe it could be a box that you check in your profile, whether or not you want to receive pm's about updates. Maybe it could also be sent as an email, maybe if you don't want to recieve anonymous pm's as emails but you do want update-pm's as emails, there could be a separate box for that? It sounds complicated, I don't care so much about the email part but I think it would be nice to atleast get a pm.

Why it is needed: in other sites I visit, such as Deviant Art (and I know this isn't Deviant Art  ) we get to choose whether or not we want to receive notification letters in our mailbox everytime a new article is posted. I think this might be useful in CC because when lack puts a new update or announcement, its all in the far-right of the homepage, you could go days without noticing  I know it won't kill you, because eventually we all notice, but maybe for those that like to know upfront what just happened. thanks :)

why is this needed? like you said, all you have to do is check the homepage to find updates, I just think this would be a waste of time when much more useful things could be getting done

yeah but it would just make sure that everyone knew about it as soon as they logged on, often times I completely miss the lefthand side of the homepage, and unless I'm crazy I think other people do to...

i understand how it would be useful, i just dont know how hard and time consuming it would be to implement. If its easy to do then i would say go for it, but if its hard i think lack should focus on more important things

yes I agree there are definitely more important things for lack to do, but if this isn't too much of a hassle I thought he could just tack another one onto the list :?
