I think that is a very cheesy way to increase your score. Of course, if you play freestyle, you'd better be prepared to go against guys who are happy to camp at their computer day and night for the sake of a win.Forefall wrote:Get a skilled dedicated partner or two and play freestyle doubles or triples games.

Well, as I read my post again, I think that one point was a bit to absolute. I should have said something to the effect of "be patient and wait for something like someone falling short on a take out run." In general, those high ranking games, while great for points, do test your skill. Like playing chess against a quality opponent, you are not likely to survive a bad move or, in this case, even a bold move not met with decent fortune.Genghis Khan CA wrote:detlef wrote:I've made my biggest leap by playing singles games against highly rated players. I disagree... if you are waiting for that you will not win very many games - you need to plan in advance, be clever and take calculated risks... even then you are doing very well to win more than 25% of your 6 player games.
Apart from that I generally agree with what you are saying... although everyone will find their own way to get points depending on their strengths. For me I started with mainly 3 to 6 player flat rate games until I hit about 1600 points and since then I have mainly played 6 player escalating singles and 4 player doubles. I have not played a single terminator game, but I hear that it is a bad idea to play them once you achieve too high a rank because you are an automatic target to other players.
Your advice is very sound and the original poster would be well served to follow it. Personally I think it is more easy to gain points if you are good at escalating because you don't have to rely on the moves of others so much. In flat rate one irrational player can mess your game up.
