Because, of course, I'm an aussie, and so know all the facts about all australian events...

But of course! :) Thanks for the info. Very cool scenery, by the way. I bet it's a great hike. It reminded me a little bit of "Desolation Trail" across the lava fields on the Big Island of Hawaii, which remains my favorite hike of all time.

5. a particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it; a system of rules or principles.

In common usage, people often use the word theory to signify a conjecture, an opinion, or a speculation. In this usage, a theory is not necessarily based on facts; in other words, it is not required to be consistent with true descriptions of reality. True descriptions of reality are more reflectively understood as statements that would be true independently of what people think about them.

In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the current theory of gravitation.

Stop trying to re-define the word "theory". When it all boils down, a theory is NOT a fact. It is a theory. As defined above. A FACT is something that can be proven.

So you're saying that the theory of gravity can't be proven?

As was explained above, the definition of theory you're using is not the definition that scientists use.

See http://www.answers.com/theory for the definitions of theory:

# A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

yup,
another colorado blizzard, fun fun
however this time i've only gotten about 13inches and they only expect another 3-6 by sunday morning for my area
which adds up to 16-19 by the end of the storm
the blizzard last week gave me about 3 ft of snow, that's an average because some snow drifts were almost 5 feet tall
this is already the 3rd snowiest december in denver's history and will probably end up to be the 2nd
the storm last week was the 7th worst ever for denver
this one will make it within the top 15, maybe even top 10
and this year was going to be the 2nd driest in denver's history but these two storms kinda blew that
now they're trying to come up with names...
so far i've heard Dumb & Dumber, Holiday Blizzard of '06 and the Sequel, Holiday Blizzard of '06 and Holiday Blizzard of '06 Deja Vu, etc etc

No, it can't be proven. That is why its a theory. The apple falls, but why? Has anyone seen gravity? Measured it? For all we know there is a gigantic magnet at the center of the earth.

Did you denfend OJ? Yes, things can be proven. If I pay my car payment with a check...I have the cancelled check to prove that I paid it. If I crash my car I can take pictures of the damage or have eye witnesses to prove it occured. Now, prove gravity.

The reason people aren't religious is because they don't want to "waste their time" with it. They just don't want to put any of their precious time into it.

I think the discussion can end here. This guy has just landed the killer blow. I am not religious because i am lazy. What insight.

And the problem with pascal's wager:
He said that you may as well believe in god, because if you don't and you're wrong you go to hell. It then follows that you should investigate every major religion and find the one with the worst hell, and believe in that. Same principle taken to a logical conclusion. Obviously fucking ridiculous, not to mention the assumption that someone can choose to believe in a god. And if you are prepared to quote it as a bedrock of your own faith, then you're more of a moron than you make out.
It's nothing more than junior school debate team bullshit - which describes most of your 'arguments' in this thread. Unfounded, ignorant, baseless, reconstituted bollocks.
Keep being told what to think, keep your heads in the sand. Why does every creationist in this thread agree that global warming is a myth? Why do they all use words like 'democrat' or 'liberal' like insults? Why does jay think buying an SUV will make you feel better? Because you are all just stereotypes.

Oh really? You'll see how much of a myth we are when we've beaten every other clan, official or not, here at CC.

Anyway, some parts are going to get colder. Just because the
average global temperature is rising, doesn't mean that every place will be warmer.

Fansinating.

You speak of how you'd only take the Bible seriously in matters of the Divine. Then you tell me you never call yourself a Christian. And now here you are claiming to be a creationist. How about you quit beating around the bush and cut to the chase. Clarify your position.

No, it's a Mexican papaya. My son (hookshotwillaby) and i were on the border in Arizona, and he took the picture when we got back to the motel after a night of drunken carousing.

"Fansinating"? Wtf??! Don't want to be a spelling Nazi, but that is fucking ridiculous. I mean, that falls into the category of semi-literate. Clarification? I believe everything in the Bible, including creation. That does not make me a Christian. One who follows the teachings of Jesus is a Christian, and i make no such claim. I did for 14 years, and finally my disgust with the organized church, and hypocrites like yourself, reached critical mass and i walked away. When He would not let me walk away, i ran - not a real bright idea. So anyway, that's why hypocrites like yourself piss me off so much - you obviously haven't given any serious study to the scriptures, yet you run your mouth incessantly about it, and in the process not only make yourself look stupid, but you also make Christianity look stupid. You need to shut the f*ck up for a while and learn what the Bible really says. Is that enough clarification for you?
