Don't worry, when you grow up and get big, you'll get it.

Oh, and the atomic bomb won the war, by the way.
It also paved the way for nuclear power.

Who exactly is the naive one again?

Hypocrite. I notice you didn't bother to re-argue with me on the 1st point.
As for the atomic bomb, you could have quite easily won the war without it. Guess what else it led to...the frikken COLD WAR
If you have such a dogmatic attitude, I suggest you stay out of adult conversations. I repeat, you are naive.

I did answer your first statement, you're just too young & naive to understand it.
Yeah, we probably would have won the war without the big one. Not the point of why we used it. We used it because it saved several hundred thousand American lives by doing so.
The cold war was on its way into full swing before the end of WWII anyways. The atomic bomb had nothing to do with it.
Like I said, when you grow up and move out of your parents' house, you'll get a better idea of how the world operates.

Japan refused to surrender so the bomb came into play
Also on a note, Germany was also making the bomb, we happened to just get so lucky as to bomb the facility it was in and stop production.
Japan was also trying to build the bomb, but they didnt show as much intrest in the weapon as we did.
Quite frankly, if we didnt get the bomb active first, WWII would probably look very very different

No, not really.
Unfortunately, many Japanese people had to suffer for the decisions of their Imperialist regime.
I don't feel bad that thousands of Japanese died because the U.S. made a decision that saved thousands of Americans.

Hey Minister Masket, one of your countrymen just misquoted what I said. Take a look...

What I actually said was...

This is your big chance to be consistent and tell Nickbaldwin that he should "learn how to read". Let's see if you seize the opportunity.

So using your logic, if it weren't for the Angles, your country wouldn't even exist. They came from the Germanic tribes. Are you going to start paying homage to Germany now?

Why? Because America is beholden to its people. Not a queen, not a king, not a dictator. Its people.
This is why Americans were first to invent:
the cotton gin
coffee pot
profile lathe (did the work of 13 men)
reaping machine
sewing machine
threshing machine
the revolver
Ether Anesthesia
Oil well
repeating rifle
roller skates
barbed wire
telephone
light bulb
electric fan
skyscraper
hearing aid
mimeograph
escalator
motion picture camera
air conditioner
airplane
assembly line production
radio astronomy
modern television
chair lift
nylon
Defibrillator
microwave oven
atomic bomb
carbon dating
polaroid camera
heart-lung machine
nuclear submarine
polio vaccine
integrated circuit
oral contraceptive
laser
operating system (IBM)
Apollo 11 - first on the moon
barcode
space shuttle
artificial heart
Hubble Telescope

and (go figure)............. the internet

The Space Shuttle is a flying piece of inefficient and hideously expensive crap, you only went to the Moon to show the Russians up (and very nearly didn't go) and Americans didn't invent the telescope, you just have the biggest one (making up for something, maybe... :-k )

All of those things would have been invented elseware, even if it was a few years later. The only reason that Americans did it first is that you have such a large resource surplus from all the smaller and less advanced countries that you have been exploiting.

I don't get this entire "My country is better than your country" thing. People the world over are basically the same. Being born in America dosen't automatically make you hard-working and intelligent, in just the same way that being born in a Middle Eastern country dosen't automatically make you a terrorist.

While you were addressing Iz Man, I'd like to respond to this. When I was saying that I live in the "best country in the world" I'm not saying that I think Americans are better than other people of the world. I'm just extremely happy to be here and live in such a wonderful country. I'm not sure why that is such a terrible thing to say. Anyway, that's probably where most of the confusion is coming from here in this thread.

I'm sure lots of people feel patriotic towards their respective countries.

On the middle point: If resources are the only factor in development, then why is Africa so helplessly backwards? Last I'd heard, Africa has more resources than the USA. And they had just as much time as the Europeans. Exploitation? We didn't get into what is commanly labeled 'Imperialism' until the Spanish-American war. And by every logical assessment, we still aren't in that business.

So the Un-Manned Programs are cheaper, the Manned flights are now getting to the point where now private companies can in the near future run their own manned space programs. Sometimes you have to spend it to earn it. And the Moon landing was an incredible leap in many areas of industry, science and even public education (thanks to Eisenhower signing the National Defence and Education Act, which increased federal funding for math and science classes in the grade schools, college aid, etc.). Correction, we have the largest ORBITAL telescope. The largest operational terrestrial telescope is probably somewhere in the States, but the point remains.

The whole "Mine is better than yours" is called Patriotism. Or Nationalism, if you're of that persuasion.

But how is America better than other countries?

Your sheer amount of personal freedom, excellent legal and healthcare systems and the availability of resources and manufactured goods?

Your legal and healthcare systems are a joke. The fact that the judge who is sueing that laundromat for 65 million for loosing a pair of pants hasn't been quietly taken outside and shot, and 2 hours waiting in hospitals proves this.
Your constitution is being screwed over left, right and centre. At the current rate, the USA will soon become akin to Communist China. The fact the President gained dictatorial powers proves this.
The reason you have access to so much of the worlds resources is your economic theory actively encourages buisnessmen to go off any buy up resources from the natives for the equivalent of shiny pebbles. This was discussed in the Marxist thread.
Rich man comes into a poor, subsistance farming area and buys up all the land which belongs to the local farmers. The farmers think they are getting a great deal, while in reality they are being payed far below what their land is actually worth. Rich man imports heavy agriculture machinery, kicks the former farmers off his land and turns what was their means of feeding themselves into a giant cash-crop farm. Since there is now no local food production, the former farmers are forced to move elseware.
Rich man - slightly richer, poor farmers - house and job-less

Your Space program; the greatest in the world?

Your Space Program is also a joke and your only means of delivering significant masses into orbit (the Space Shuttle) is the result of a bad compromise; it neither fufills it's role as a cheap, re-usable transport, or as a War Plane.
While the Moon landings did provide a boost too several industries, they were ultimatly a political gesture and nothing more. As soon as it was discovered that there was nothing immediatly useful on the Moon, the entire thing was abandoned.
If America was serious about the entire "Pioneers" thing, then their greatest success in Space shouldn't have ended 30 years ago; it should be happening right now.

Please tell, what benifit does blindly supporting your country give? What happens if the USA massacre hundreds of unarmed civilians, like the Chinese did? Will you still be "Patriotic" then?
Patriotism only serves to widen rifts between countries and cause fights between individuals.
What possible benifit does that bring?

The funny thing is...you can't actually prove you went to the moon at all! I saw a program once about the many mysteries concerning Apollo 11 (ie: wind blowing when there is no wind) and how the whole thing could have been faked in a studio.
