A friend announced on saturday that muhammad ali was the most overrated sportsman ever. This is an insane thing to say, isn't it? He was the greatest sportsman of all time. There can be no argument.

Non reason, I just don't like him, he was too cocky, he had the stuff to back it up, but I just don't like real cocky people, and you can't really say someone is the best ever, because that makes it hard to compare other athletes from their rspective sports.

He may have been one of the best boxers of all time, but I wouldn't call him the best athlete of all time, he may suck at football, or be a terrible weightlifter. So those guys are better than him.....at their respective events.

What kind of insult is calling someone a shower????

Anyway... I definately wouldnt say best athlete of all time, but he was pretty damn close. Best boxer i'd say by a long shot, though Frazier was a close second for giving Ali his toughest competition. But its hard to say best athlete, becuase alll sports are so varied. Say golf, you dont have to be athletic (ex. John Daly), but can still be awesome.

well yeah but every sport has its legends. Ali was the greatest boxer of all time, pele or maradona was the greatest footballer, maybe tiger will be the greatest golfer... but to be the greatest sportsman/woman you have to transcend sport. Ali did that. He was a poet, a conscientious objector, a showman...

PS after his cornerman widened an existing hole in his glove to buy some time, he took 'enry cooper to pieces :twisted:

Bullshit hes not the best boxer of all time. There was not a single strategy that could be made to fight him, yet he could always implement a strategy against his opponent. The only way to knock him down was a lucky punch on his chin, because there was no way a body shot would ever take him down. And there wasn't and still isnt't a boxer in the heavyweight division who has the punch speed of Ali.
