New Card Option

Postby Rybal on Sun Jul 01, 2007 5:00 pm

<Subject>:

* My suggestion (this time) is that, instead of simply using the current methods of turning in cards, that we allow a constant reinforcement bonus.

<Body>:

* Suggestion Idea: See above and below

* Specifics: When you turn in your cards, you could have the option of a one-time bonus of the appropriate number of armies OR you could get a permanent bonus to your reinforcement total.

For an escalating game, you could have the number go up one every time that one is used. Also, to add an additional strategic element to this, you could have it set up so that you could only use a multi-set to gain the permanent bonus OR you could set it so that the first person to cash in has that particular set (say three red or three green) sets the requirement as such.

It could also be a checkbox option, rather than a requirement and could go alongside current card options. Plenty of variations on possibilities for implementation on this one.

* Why it is needed: This idea would add an additional strategic element to the way that the game is played. It would be especially interesting in longer games (such as 2.1).

* Priority** (1-5): 2

So your saying you could turn in a rainbow set and get +10 that turn or get a permanent +1?

Pretty much - though if it was flat rate, you could also have it so that was also flat rate - whether color based (red=1, green=2, blue=3, multi=4), set flat rate (all equal), or even split flat rate (red and green = 1 each, blue and multi = 2 each).

In a short game, standard cash-in values would be more useful, but this could add an additional strategic element for games that you expect to be longer.

very interesting Idea, I would like this very much, gaining an extra every turn would be awesome for flat rate games, esculating obviously not so much :D

Well, for escalating, that could escalate as well. It could start at 1 and increase, say in the following pattern (and this is just a suggestion): 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10. You could even have a max set up so that you can't just increase it that way. Say someone sends in two 10 counts, that is an extra 20 armies per turn.

Also, there would be separate counters for per turn and single use reinforcements, so that could also limit the number of reinforcements you give to others in the long run.

that would make sense to me, the continual reinforcment bonus would help on smaller maps where there aren't as many countries in which to generate reinforcements.
