I disagree with both of you. A parent should to a certain extent tolerate what a child does BECAUSE they are their primary teachers.

Don't know exactly what you're disagreeing with me about. I also believe that, UR.

My point is that if a child disobeys the law then the parents can't support the child simply because he/she is their offspring. The law must be obeyed. Skittles said parents should always approve of whatever their children do or believe. If I had a neo-nazi child I certainly wouldn't support them or any criminal behavior they would engage in.

I never ask my parents for advice (with a few exceptions, such as college applications). Mostly clergy and close friends.

Either, I'll ask a family member, a friend, or keep it inside. Usually I'll keep in inside. ;)

Depends on what it is. ;)

I would love to see a therapist. Unbiased advice is great and you will never get that from anyone who has an agenda with you.

I don't believe in unbiased advice. Go to a therapist who believes in using drugs, and all the advice given will be through that bias. A pastor, a religious bias. A doctor who has a tough time believing parents because of a bad childhood of his own? That's how he'll see you. Everyone has opinions from their own experiences. The key (for me at least) is finding someone who's biases are something you believe in. Or want to believe in, if you understand me.

For me, I chose older person - mentor. My family has a close family friend, who we've known since I was 8. I'm now 26, he's 60-something. But he's a very Godly man, everything I want to be, and any problems I have with anything, I can talk with him. He's a very good friend and counselor. Not a professional, not liscenced, but I trust him. For me personally, it helps knowing him personally, because I can see his life, and how he lives, and decide if that's what I want. Go to a professional counselor, and you really don't know what you're getting. They can tell you what to do, but do they believe it? Does it work for them? It's like the financial planner who shows up at your house driving the '87 Chevy Chevette. Is he really the one you want directing YOUR financial future? Doesn't seem to be working well for him.

Also in the end, I understand what Debra says too. It's your life, and you've got to be the one making the desicions. Taking advice is good, but you're the one who has to change your life, go in the right direction, whatever.

Whew! I thought you were going to get upset because I didn't list Scotty Bowman or Sparky Anderson as options.

Now that I think about it...maybe I should have listed Wayne Fontes.

LOL I'm a bit young for Wayne Fontes, but I know enough to know not to ask anyone associated with the Lions for advice on anything, except perhaps questions on how best to destroy a given thing!

Scotty, he'd be a perfect one, or Jim Leyland. (have to remember, I'm a young fella, at only 26).

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Serb :D Although as a rule I don't discuss my problems with anyone, people in my life generally come to me with their problems, which I love listening to and being able to help put things in perspective for them.

I haven't heard of any of those guys except for Sparky Anderson so I guess I'm even more of a youngster. I read about him in a baseball almanac when he managed the Big Red Machine and then came to Detroit.

I chose family member because they will still care about you no matter how screwed up you've become. It's like an unwritten rule I think. I know Will Smith said parents "just don't understand" but I still think they can give good advice.

Sparky Anderson, managed the Detroit Tigers (and Cincinatti Reds) and won World Series titles with both.

Scotty Bowman coached the Detroit Red Wings (and several other NHL teams) and won 3 Stanely Cups with Detroit, 10 overall.

Jim Leyland currently manages the Detroit Tigers, and took them to the World Series last year, and won a ring with the Florida Marlins.

Wayne Fontes coached the Detroit Lions several years too long, and never won a thing.

yep, I plan on it, life just seems so short, which seems awful strange for a young person to be saying, but all the same, it does.

and sorry for the mini thread-jack there.

Well, I wasn't meaning like, if the child does drugs then the parents should support it, I was meaning in a big change, like, if they turn out to be homosexual, or have different beliefs as them. I guess I shouldn't of put always.

no since you have very few :D

but in response to your original question,

i once had a really hard decision to make, I really didnt know what to do...i thought it over for a really long time, wieghed my options...the repercussions were severe, so i realized I needed some help.

I had a set of three cards, I could cash for 20 and possibly take out blue, and cash again, or hold and hope blue didnt have a set and that pink wouldnt take him out...if i failed in my attack, i would certainly lose, but if i didnt i still might not win, but had a chance....I was very torn.

So I asked Blitz for advice.
