It was more like something out of Robocop:

"Drop your WMDs, you have ten seconds to comply."
"Um, Blix came in and saw that we got rid of our WMDs."
"You now have five seconds to comply"
"Hey, moron, we destroyed them!"

I think it would be that we both dislike these phony religious nuts on TV who promise you some type of healing or blessing. Of course you just have to send in $19.99 for your own personal miracle.

Are you saying my post angers you? The reason I posted that pic is because I think that's how they see us. No amount of reasoning or logic is ever accepted by them because they can't get past that preconception of us.

But back to the theme of the thread...I don't see how people can seriously think that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks. I remember also hearing that the Israeli government was behind the attacks. There was some figure put forth of the percentage of Jewish workers that decided to call in sick. The conspiracy was that the Israeli government called them ahead of time and warned them of the impending attacks (all disguised to make it look like Muslim extremists).

I just don't understand why people can't believe that Al-Queda planned and implemented the attack.

Not to derail the thread, but if you mean that all atheists, liberals etc. see all Christians as being like the lunatics in the picture, I'd say you'd be dead wrong there.

Some atheists (including myself) may see religion as factually wrong, and maybe undesirable in wider society to a greater or lesser extent, but it doesn't mean that people can't tell the difference between all the varying shades and brands of Christianity, and most sensible people wouldn't flat-out label all, or even most, Christians as fools.

Forget the 911 conspiracy. There is a far greater and more powerful conspiracy at work out there. Watch this video, and discover the shocking truth for yourself.

I think this has a lot to do with differing attitudes between Americans and British people... The Christian element of the community in the UK is, by an large, fairly quiet, middle of the road and intrusive. Being a Christian in the UK generally means nothing whatsoever in terms of, for example, personal morality, 'goodness' of character or whatever... Its not the huge debate, the huge battle, which seems to rage in America. Jay's whole Atheism hates us thing is not at all true in the UK. Atheism and Christianity exist, side by side, tolerant of each other and with little or no friction day in day out. The religious beliefs of, say a Politician would only serve to prove that he was perhaps a moral man, rather than to emphasise he was fundamentalist, or crazy or whatever charges are often levelled against prominant US Christians.

Not mad at you. VERY MAD at the money-grubbing hypocrites who proform fakey 'miracles' for cash. No differant than a comman street hussy in all honesty. It is a sad reflection on all who walk the narrow path.

Look, how do you expect to find God if you can't even find $19.99?

Silly people, God is not found by money. God is found, depending on how you see it, either in the heart or in scripture.

Still, I despise those 'televanglists' for the most part.

Yeah, you're probably right - Luns' original statement looks an awful lot like paranoia, but I suppose if you live in a society where (in my opinion, but then, I'm on the outside looking in) the religious debates often appear to be falsely polarised, people will start to have these kinds of reactions to anyone they see as "being on the other side".

Also, I resent the way that this stuff seeps into British society sometimes. It's one reason why I still have a dislike for Richard Dawkins, despite agreeing with him on many issues - his arguments are often mostly applicable to the more evangelical, fundamentalist Christians, which we have few of. But it doesn't seem to stop him publishing books and making TV programmes here.

"9/11 was caused by a bunch of pissed off muslims".....simple

on a similar note, i believe that the 1980 mount st.helens explosion was propagated by a bunch of pissed off scientologists.....here's why :-

1) lets face it, they are the only people that claim to have the necessary knowledge of 'volcano technology'.
2) the seattle branch of 'friends of freedom' - an information front for scientology - began operations just days before the 1980 explosion.
3) its well known in hollywood that 'scientology celeb' tom cruise flatly refused the lead role in the 1997 movie 'volcano'.......was it too close to the bone?
4) when another 'scientology celeb' john travolta obtained his pilot's license, one of his first solo flights just happened to take his aircraft directly over mount st. helens.......was he gloating?

and furthermore. if the scientologists knowledge of volcano technology extends to geological fault-lines, then they could also be responsible for the 2004 indian ocean tsunami, as well as the devastating kashmir and sumatra-andaman earthquakes, among countless others.

and the old argument that these events were nothing more than 'acts of god' just won't wash - how could a caring, just and perfect being create such an imperfect world that is capable of routinely killing hundreds of thousands of its innocent inhabitants on such a regular basis? - that would be total nonsense, right?

may your god go with you
