SiCKO

I just got back from my local premier of Micheal Moore's new movie, SiCKO, and I absolutely LOVED it! He talks about and compares the health care system of the US, Canada, France, UK and Cuba. Though I find he makes the Canadian health care sound better than it really is (though it still is pretty awesome :) ). Anyway, he has people that were screwed over by their government (US that is) and their Insurance companies.

One story that really hit me hard was the woman who took her 18 month old baby to the hospital, but, apparently, her health care plan wouldn't cover services provided at that hospital and told her to take her to one that would (presumably in a taxi). She begged and pleaded the doctors to take care of her baby (who had a fever of over 104), but she was only escorted out. She ended up going to the other hospital. The little girl went into cardiac arrest there and died.

It also talks about 9/11 heroes, other social services provided in other countries, cost of pharmaceuticals and bills passed by congress. I would REALLY recommend seeing this movie. Here are a few links:

Probably won't happen unless you're taking some kind of world studies course…

I would like to see it aswell, had him on the Daily show.

Larry King Live chose Paris Hilton over Michael Moore, shows something is wrong with this country...

thought Farenheit was very well done, who knew a documentary could be so entertaining...

Ya, I still need to see that one. I saw Bowling For Columbine and it was really good (I thought). Anyway, despite the fact that we had to sit through a shit load of previews (the theater actually applauded when the show came on ) it was a damn good movie. Definitely recommend seeing.

Yea...I can't wait to see it. I've already seen Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine, but I would definitely most like to see this one. I'm looking foward to it. And as Anarchist already said, he was on the Daily Show last night...which I watched.

Ya, it doesn't. Not much you can do about it though… You'll just have to wait until tomorrow :)

Michael Moore is a nut... I don't endorse cinematic lunacy

Though I guess your post is balanced since you decided to add an anti-Michael Moore site btw  ;)

But the Bush-haters in Hollywood & here at CC do. Look for Moore to be applauded and hailed as one of the greatest movie makers ever. Oliver Stone...move over.

Yeah, he'd better do that. One can't exactly say that Moore is slim after all. A guy like him needs a lot of room.

Anyway, about the anti-moore site: YAY! A graph! THAT proves you're right.
Although some of the posters there actually DID bother to name sources and do some research before pressing "submit", so I guess it's not all bad.

I think Moore might possibly be one of the greatest movie-makers ever.

the problem i had w/ previous Michael Moore films is that he's great at pointing out problems, but doesn't do anything about solutions. Its easy to point a finger and say "see, see, here's the problem", but if you don't offer helpful solutions you're not helping anything

Well he is raising awareness.

sure, awareness is good, but the thing is, most of us know how crap the health system in the US is. If you've ever gone to the emergency room, waited for 2 hours for treatment and then paid out the ass afterwards, you know. If you can't afford spousal insurance because it costs $200+ a month and you need the $$ for food instead, you know. awareness is all well and good, but if your not providing help w/ the solution then its not going to do much good. What does MM do w/ the money he makes off these films, donate it to charity, or buy himself another pint of Cherry Garcia? and its not like i disagree w/ some of what he says, but if i want to laugh at the Bush administration i just watch the Colbert Report or Daily Show, for free.

I'm quite said that the Australian health-care system wasn't against the US one. Is Australia really that unpopular and unimportant?
