Did you watch Newsnight last night Norse. Apparently, even though it was a manifesto commitment to hold a referendum over the EU constitution, it is now decided that there is not going to be a referendum on the newly formed constitution even though it is 90% the same as the original one.

I'm a busy man, people to see, people to meet...I haven't any time to read books. Just give us all a quick synopsis of it.

And back to the subject of the thread, I was horrified to see the following headline on Guardian Unlimited earlier today (it doesn't appear to be there anymore):

"Blair: I will bring peace to the Middle East"

Don't the Palestinians have enough problems on their hands?!

You misread the headline. He's bringing PEAS to the middle east. Good old Prince Charlie's employed him as organic vegetable ambassador to the Arabs.

In the long term we definately need europe and (please dont assasinate me) the euro unless we want to become even more useless as an economic force

Since im living in America, all I will remember him for is Iraq.
Seems like his potential went down the toilet once he started taking American advice. Ofcourse I fear thats the case in most of Europe, following the wrong examples.

Norse could you give a brief summary? Sounded interesting enough.

Hope Blair has better sucess as an envoy, ofcourse that depends on which devil he listens to...

I think we are powerful enough as an economic force. There is no need to be any more powerful and if we sacrifice our sovereignty to Europe then we actually lose in the long run regarding the concept of internal sovereignty.

Think Tony Blair has been a truly great PM, although most will remember him for Iraq - and certainly a load of anti-American sentiment won't help him either.

Also he's bound to get lambasted because now Labour are 'the establishment' rather than the Tories, so general grievances with life will be aimed at them rather than the system as a whole.

But anyway, I've been a big fan of Tony Blair and I think Gordon Brown will do an equally good job; hopefully he'll distance himself enough from Tony Blair to win another election or two and keep Labour in power for a bit longer.

I'm not an ardent Labour supporter, usually vote for the green party, but I'd have them over the Tories any day.

Do you have any concept of the difference between our economy and the USAs? Or what the difference between China and India and ourselves will be? They will be able to economically dictate our policies. That's not sovereignty. Anyway, what specific sovereignty do you think we have lost? I can see sovereignty lost to the US in terms of our entire foreign policy. Telling us how to weigh our apples is nothing compared to that. It isn't Europe we need to be afraid of.
