Residents of Catalonia, an autonomous region with its own government but also claimed by Spain's Socialist Workers' Party, are used to life under the boot. The Madrid government started to become increasingly assertive over the region in recent years (some might recall footage of woman being dragged from independence polling stations by their hair by armed stormtroopers), with the Socialist Party outlawing political opposition and driving Catalonia's leaders into exile abroad.
However, some residents continue to hold out. Just yesterday Catalan students burned the Spanish flag in a display of defiance of authoritarianism:

The world's anti-colonisliast governments - India, China, South Africa etc - have so far refused to condemn the Socialist Party's oppression but international support is growing.
