I guess that makes me a conservative who:
is pro-choice, kids should be raised by parents that wanted them.

thinks Trump incited a violent insurrection and should be hanged for treason

is pro states rights, since despite being raised catholic (image of my baptism below) realizes there are a bunch of religious crazies in this country, and I don't want them writing laws i have to live under.

I think there is alot of hyperbole going on with regards to this case, which is frankly all too common when people talk about the supreme court.
This decision did NOT make abortion illegal, it just abdicated federal responsibility (about laws governing it) in favor of state responsibility. While it drowned in the politics, this ruling is basically that abortion is not a right specifically enshrined in the constitution. It doesn't have anything to do with religion at all... but that's hard for people to accept because we've lived 50 years with things one way and now they have been changed.

I think one could point to way better examples of Supreme Court cases when there are questions of church and state separation.

With regards to separation of church and state more broadly... I guess it still exists in some places. That's just the way our system works though, we are 50 little countries that share some inalienable rights together. If some backwoods state like Alabama is 95% born again, then their laws are going to reflect their lifestyle choices. As long as it doesn't break any constitutional guarantees, they are free to enact them.

It seems that the non-greatest llama has a rather narrow grasp of the concept of the "separation of church and state" doctrine. This may help.

The First Amendment
The first amendment to the US Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." The two parts, known as the "establishment clause" and the "free exercise clause" respectively, form the textual basis for the Supreme Court's interpretations of the "separation of church and state" doctrine.[40] Three central concepts were derived from the 1st Amendment which became America's doctrine for church-state separation: no coercion in religious matters, no expectation to support a religion against one's will, and religious liberty encompasses all religions. In sum, citizens are free to embrace or reject a faith, and support for religion—financial or physical—must be voluntary, and all religions are equal in the eyes of the law with no special preference or favoritism.[41]

The First Congress' deliberations show that its understanding of the separation of church and state differed sharply from that of their contemporaries in Europe.[citation needed] As the 19th-century historian Philip Schaff observed:

The American separation of church and state rests upon respect for the church; the [European anticlerical] separation, on indifference and hatred of the church, and of religion itself... The constitution did not create a nation, nor its religion and institutions. It found them already existing and was framed for the purpose of protecting them under a republican form of government, in a rule of the people, by the people, and for the people.[42]

An August 15, 1789, entry in Madison's papers indicates he intended for the establishment clause to prevent the government imposition of religious beliefs on individuals. The entry says: "Mr. Madison said he apprehended the meaning of the words to be, that Congress should not establish a religion, and enforce the legal observation of it by law, nor compel men to worship God in any manner contrary to their conscience. ..."[43]

Ralf's 95 year old great grandmother owns Canada but has an effeminate blackface- wearing property manager looking after the place. There's a tenants council that's pretty influential but they're scared of this gang of senior citizens in the area called the Wise Owls. The guy in Apartment 9 pretends he doesn't speak English and refuses to speak to the other tenants. Weirdly, the property manager refuses to paint the building or make any improvements without the guy in Apartment 9's permission. A man in the building next door keeps blasting music at 3 in the morning but he's also the chief of police so there's nothing anyone can do.

Also, the whole building is 118 stories high but only the first three floors are rented out.

I doubt most Americans have an
encyclopedic understanding of US rule of law

I am not sure most lawyers fall in that category, either.

If llama wants to comment on US rule of law, I tried to help him grasp it BETTER. Notice that there was NO Judgement made in my reference to the First Amendment.

And, Mookie, you only defend llama since he declared that YOU won this thread. :D

In this morning's Reuters poll, Old Joe has a 33% approval rate, making him the most disliked president in American history.

The right will be fine.

33% is pretty bad I’ll admit.

Trump however bottomed out at 29%… so your claim that Biden’s is the lowest in American History is just wrong.

Please admit your error.

https://ropercenter.cornell.edu/preside ... /highslows

You’ll also note that Trump never exceed 49%… Biden has been as high as 63%. So he’s a double-loser by your calcs.

Apples to apples. If you compare the same poll to the same point in their presidency, Biden is more unpopular than Trump in virtually every poll.

Gallup -
Day 516: Biden 41% approval
Day 526: Trump 42% approval
https://news.gallup.com/interactives/18 ... enter.aspx

Rasmussen -
24 June 2022: Biden 40% approval
24 June 2018: Trump 46% approval
https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public ... rack_jun24

“virtually” is a very fungible word… especially when you pick-and-choose the polls and dates that suit your “message”.

Reality is a bitch though, and the simple fact is that you made a statement that was proven false… and in your typical fashion you choose to ignore that truth and just plow forward. I see why you love Trump so much… cause you’re the same.

Pointing to Trump rallies as proof of his great popularity ignores the bigger picture. Yes, Trump has a passionate, loud, and very loyal base who turn out for his rallies. BUT at most, that base comprise ONLY a maximum of 35% of the electorate, NOT ENOUGH to win an election where MOST eligible voters actually do so.

The decision on abortion will turn out some that may not have voted in the election, but:

1) the selection of the President of the US is over two years away, and
2) the economy will be a greater cause for many to vote in 2022 and 2024.
3) It is UNLIKELY that the US Economy will rebound enough to swing the vote away toward Biden and many Democrats. This is especially true in the Fall of 2022; 2024 is more unclear, since time can change perceptions and reality.
4) Those that are upset about the abortion issue will likely vote for most Democrats anyway; this merely makes them MORE LIKELY to actually vote.
5) Actually voting and POLLS are not the same; voting is what actually COUNTS. Polls are merely a snapshot of what some people feel at that moment. Polls are not as accurate nor as useful as some want to believe.
6) Arguing over polls is arguing over minutia, something the Trolls love to do. We can continue to ignore them because they deal with minutia and useless matters.
7) The Trolls want to argue who has the bigger/biggest molehill and the biggest ego.
