Considering myself a Film Buff

I can say personally the list is not good and I feel it is lacking big time.

i've seen copies of these lists before and thought, "damn, i need to go down the list and watch the true classics."

now that someone has asked my opinion on it, i'm looking at the list thinking, wtf? it is SO obviously biased towards older movies. look at the top 65: there are 3 movies made after 1980. 3, that's just ignorant. maybe older movies were better, but they can't be THAT much better.

also, it's all about hype as well. how many indie films are on here? i'd like to know, of these 100 movies, how many were winners or nominees for oscar best picture? probably a lot. now how many were big at sundance or cannes? probably not nearly so many. they'd never put some small-time, unknown movie on here.......the charge of bullshit bias can't be escaped here, methinks.

That's a great point, Nephilim. I like numbers 1 & 2, but outside of that, I think the top ten is all wrong.

I would say that some older movies deserve to be on there, like Ben-Hur and 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that list has far too many older movies.

I think it's criminal that Citizen Kane is still at No. 1 position.
Ok, granted I haven't seen it, but I have looked it up, and it has possibly the most boring plot scenario I've seen in years. Even the "Rosebud" conclusion was incredibly anti-climatic. A sled???. Pffft.

Also, why is Lord of the Rings at 50!!?? That's atrocious. Someone fire all these so-called "critics" and get a real bunch of buffs in...
I bet none of those people are under the age of 67...

Forest Gump at number 76 should definitely be higher up there. Also, not to sound like a Star Wars geek, but where is it on the list? That movie revolutionized the movie business. There's more to be said, but I don't really feel like going through all of it.

I don't think it was really the sled, per se. I think that sled was the last time he was truly happy, so he was looking for that. You're right with LOTR though. There's no way that it should be out of the top 20.

To the gentleman who has not seen Citizen Kane... you must go and see that movie... It is one of the best films ever to come out of US cinema. Orson Wells is a renaissance man. He directed wrote and starred in that move when he was in his early 20's. It is a travesty that you have not seen it.

Plus Orson Wells sounds a lot like the Brain from Pinky and the Brain.

I think this list is a little better....although there are still alot of old movies...many I've never heard of....

If you ask me, both lists are flawed. As to which is flawed more? That's up to discussion

For instance, the Wizard of Oz is below Terminator 2, Grindhouse, Blade Runner and Batman Begins...it needs to be higher up there. And Mr. Smith goes to Washington is even lower...thats a shame. Also V for Vendetta is below Finding Nemo, the increadibles and Hot Fuzz. Ben Hur is pretty for down there as well. And Gone With the Wind is #176..below all of those. Spartacus is # 187, below Toy Story 2. Young Frankenstein #218, and Walk the Line #247? Big Fish is pretty far down there too. Come on, they need to be higher than that. But those are just a few things, there are many more.

Oh and again, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory didnt even make the list.

Bull, that film was revolutionary. It introduced a new age to films, a lot of the fantastic stunts we see now were inspired by the wire work in Matrix. Should be on the list.
