Well, maybe that was why it was not as accurate as almost everyone thinks it would be.

It's not an MRI, most of what you could see clearly in 2006 was the bones. We went to several ultrasound sessions both times my wife was pregnant and watched the screen. It was only amazing because it is your child. It looked quite like a moving X-Ray.

Not sure why I'm bothering to respond. You seem to figure everyone at those parties is looking at a Playboy magazine type nudie photograph of a fetus.

I mean, my comment about ultrasounds being porn was a joke. Sort of. betsie's French so you can never be completely sure.

Male and female skulls are a bit different but that's when you look at a fully grown adult. There's basically no evidence that the skull of a young male fetus is at all different to the skull of a young female fetus. By the time the fetus becomes anything more than a weird smushy blob the clue you'd be looking for is a penis or vagina, not a funny-shaped skull.

Well at least I learned a word today which is useless since what words mean is more a matter of opinion these days.

I figured it was two terms for the same thing such as "boot" vs "trunk" or pants vs pants.

I just read, ultrasound is the process and the image is a sonogram.

And I learned that to become an ultrasound technician (or sonographer, as they're called here) in the UK you need to get a postgraduate sonography qualification, prior to which you'll need to have an undergrad degree in anything health- or science-based.

In Canada people appear to do sonography as its own separate undergraduate course.

Although in theory you could become a sonographer in either country without having any qualifications whatsoever, as its not a regulated profession in either.

ok so we missed a huge point here... what do you call an undevelopped foetus?
In my case, we went to do echographies every month, and when my ex was 3 month pregnant the gynecologist told he saw the sex. I don't think it's possible to know before that, and anyways before 3 month there are too much chances to lose the baby so you don't say anything anyways.
I was a noob back then, I remember showing the pic to a friend of mine and he immediately told me it was a girl. I could definitely tell it was a girl too after really understanding the pic, and I'm pretty sure that if I ever become a dad again, and that I attend the echographies, I'm pretty sure I will be able to guess, it's really not tat hard once you understand what is what.

well it all depends on the posture of the baby and the month of development it has. The guy will tell you how sure he is of the sex. If he is certain and he isn't drunk, he's probably right.
