This is one area where I’m considering CHANGE... but have yet to find someone who can explain to be why some use is bad and other use isn’t.

I was half-jokingly saying that “My use is acceptable because in my formative years it was OK to say it, so I was ‘grandfathered’ in.”

I’ve since modified my opinion slightly.
I’ve decided I’m fine if the word dies and I don’t need to use it...

However, since I’ve been using it my whole life and only in the last 5+ years has it become controversial, I do feel that (though I’m going to work to stop using it) I will not accept and don’t want the “PC Police” to jump down my throat if it accidentally slips out. Many can’t accept this compromise. I want. to “do the right thing”, and will try.... but if you “PC Lady” jump down my throat at an accidental slip,I will reverse course and defend my right to use that word. Fair?

I think you're learning the wrong lessons from this. Say rather, that we grew up in a time when we had real problems to worry about.

Just once, in Grade One, I was stupid enough to go crying to my teacher that the other kids were calling me names. She made me stand in front of the class and write 100 times on the blackboard, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." It's a lesson I never forgot.

Cops kneeling on people's necks are a real problem. They do real, physical, tangible harm. It's harm that's objectively demonstrable. If someone kneels on your neck long enough, you will die. If you're old and sick, you may die faster, but even if you're a professional athlete in top competitive condition, you will die eventually.

People calling each other names are not a real problem. They're just words. Hot air. If you're in a hostile situation and you use the wrong names, yeah you can get your head kicked in and it becomes a real problem. But by itself it isn't. It's just hot air.

The trouble with your Twitter generation is that you don't actually experience anything. It's all just pixels on a screen, far removed from your actual life. So you can get as outraged about the one as you can about the other.
