I was the only one there but there was still ice on most of the lake. Odd usually when you find a small opening on an ice covered lake, the fish show up but not that day.

Someone did wander over to ask how it was going but kept 20+ feet away.

I started this thread because I woke up early and was going to go fishing. Then remembered my wife had an assignment for me. Then it got all humid out later, so today I slept in.

Possibly. What are you after. I like to catch trout and eat them.

You never know for sure if you will catch fish but going to a more secluded place helps. If you don't mind sleeping in a tent we can drive up north a few hundred kilometers and probably catch some big Pike. I have not bothered going for Pike since I like trout.

I think the streams just opened, I would need to check the regs for sure but we might be able to find some big wild trout. They won't be as big as the pike though.

Unless you want to spend a bunch of money renting a boat or going for a few days or weeks at a fly in lodge. There are lots of those around too. Some guarantee you'll get fish.

lol I've done just a bit of river fishing as a teen when i made an exchage with some dude and we went to colorado, it was pretty cool I got a lot of rainbow trouts and such in the creeks.
I'm more used to fish in the mediterranean... with a line or a harpoon. Gosh, I love that... harpoon fishing. I feel like I'm a predator shark. You have to figure out each specie's habits, strenght and weaknesses and figure out tactics and try to find advantages with the rocks and seaweeds..
With line fishing it's cool and all, there is also a lot of strategies and tactics... but at the end of the day you don't really know what's going on there. Underwater it becomes something else.

I don't think you would enjoy going in most of the water in Canada unless you had a nice dry suit on. There are a few warmish lakes but I'm not sure if there are fish in them.

Lol i wear a full wetsuit in the mediterranean for that.. staying in the water for hours often without moving for stealth attacks require that. Also... i don’t think you can actually harpoon fresh water fish, there is most likely no visibility

It depends. There are lots of clear lakes here but some are not, the little pond I went to yesterday was pretty dark. People dive in some lakes but even in August, they are quite cold.

There is one in a small town called Airdrie, they stock with trout, a bunch of people were fishing it the day we stopped by, but I thought it looked pretty gross. Kind of almost green.

One of my favorite spots is in the mountains about an hour and a half drive from here called Mount Laurette pond. It's fed by a stream and drains out the other end. It is crystal clear, you can see the bottom in detail throughout. Problem is too many people know about it and poach the fish. They used to have a limit of 5 per person but people would clean out all the little stocked trout in a week or two after the pond was stocked. They changed the limit there to two but it did not seem to fix the problem.

Really beautiful place with a paved path and picnic spots around it. Last time I was there you could see four or five dead trout on the bottom all that was left a few weeks after they stocked it.
