Car headlights are too powerful

Postby HitRed on Mon May 25, 2020 8:21 pm

Seems we have moved quickly from tungsten-halogen to arc lamps for night driving. The worst place to be is on the receiving end of these. Either on a road or walking the dog they cause pain to your eyes and force you to look away. They are called High-intensity discharge (HID) electric arc lights. These appear blue instead of the normal white or yellow tint.

Jonezy....are you one of those entitled bicyclers? Want your bike lanes, specialized parking and extra rights, but use the normal roads and don't hafta follow the rules? And assume you have ownership of the road over vehicles? Also have a helmet mounted camera so once you've pissed a car off enough by being a massive douche and they yell at you, you can get it on video and claim you've been abused and marginalized?

Are you??

Oh....you're not? Well good then. :D

Cause I no-no likee them so much. Our state, at least around horrendous liberal biker friendly Portland, is like the capital / haven / sanctuary for those tools. It is unbelievable.

No. But I like to be able to see where I'm going without being blinded by oncoming traffic. Crap bicycle riders are a pet hate of mine. Riding around in the dark without any lights of their own, or any indication to car drivers, other bicyclists, and pedestrians annoys the hell out of me, especially when they're going in the wrong direction and ignoring traffic lights.. I could easily go on for a lot longer about this..

 agreed on all points!

My son put some of those eyeball blistering bulbs in his car. Granted they are safer for HIM as you can see far better, everywhere, than for instance in my old truck....but I HATE being on the receiving end. Safety for my boy; good. Annoying fonking painful lights; bad. Guess I don't know where I stand cause I dont want to outright say "Yes! I'm a hypocrite!!"

Om a positive note, my truck is SO loud that it's really fun to stand on it whn I pass a biker in MY lane that has a 6 foot wide bike lane next to him....doesnt wanna get his expensive tires dirty in the bike lane. Scares the CRAP out of them every time....fun to see em wobbling around in shock behind me....such an ass

The bike thing is complex. You see guys in cars doing some really foul things to decent cyclists here.

Then you also see people that should have their bike taken away and shredded.

I try to acomidate cyclists by passing as wide as I can even though I am baffled when I see one riding on a busy road that is parallel to a bike path. A few possibly should get naturally selected for that decision.

In the past when Riding a bicycle was one of my favorite things, I have also been yelled at by a few cops for riding on an abandoned sidewalk. "Get off the sidewalk!"

I don't ride near pedestrians though. I ride off the sidewalk or stop to let them pass.

As for those lights, there used to be a fine for having regular headlights adjusted incorrectly. I guess they are not doing that as much.

A few times I have encountered a set that caused pain. I look away, to the right and down like I was taught in driver's ed.

This. I see examples of both. Totally irresponsible bike riders who don't care to make room for cars, and totally irresponsible car drivers who don't care to make room for bikes.

In general, there's no generalization that works for all.
