Houston, we've had a problem

Postby Dukasaur on Sat Apr 11, 2020 9:55 pm

50 years ago today, Apollo 13 blasted off on what should have been a moon mission. Instead, it turned into something else. Two days into the mission, an explosion destroyed one of the oxygen tanks, forcing a scrub of the mission and putting the lives of the crew in danger.

There have been half a dozen movies made about the mission, including the star-studded Apollo 13 movie of 1996. It was more accurate than most Hollywood depictions of historical events. Not perfect, but very, very good. Now, however, we have something even better. Historian Ben Feist has put together an exhaustive archive. Compiling the 17,000 hours of audio and video recordings made at the time, Feist has assembled a complete re-creation of the event.

Go to https://apolloinrealtime.org/

If you have the energy to stay awake for six days solid, you can actually just hit play and experience the mission from start to finish in real time. Or, you can just browse and look at the highlights.

Ron Howard did great as the director of Apollo 13 and he could have saved The Alamo movie.

The Apollo 13 movie was GREAT...! Even though you know what is going to happen, the movie still had suspense.

(I have not seen the Alamo Movie.)
