Why would a recovering drug addict and alcoholic sip bourbon and ginger?

Why Bulliet?

“Moderation” is really not the mantra of someone who is a former addict and in recovery.

but you do you...

It seems everyone is an addiction specialist and pyschologist here

If you knew more, perhaps you could make more educated comments

Ironic coming from the guy who spends half his time on here telling rape victims they should've known better than to get raped.

Moderation does not seem to be a trait for either group. It is NONE or ALL.

So... you are trying to make a joke implying that my comments are wrong.

Are they?

Are you saying is DAA meetings they counsel “moderation” and not abstinence?

Dude... get a clue.

My comments are generally well informed and when I’m not 100% sure of something you’ll see me using phrases like “I think” or “i’ve heard” etc.

I’m 100% sure that all professionals working with recovering drug addicts would counsel abstinence, NOT moderation.

I'm saying you're entitled to your opinion which you're expressing. It is not however, a qualified opinion as you lack the credentials to make one

You are yelling self-righteously about something you know little about baseed on your microcosm of experience which *pulls lever* *clank* *clunk*

What do we have here???? Ah, you're an asshat

Based on your posts, it seems you, wmw, are a dependent drinker. SO:

For the most dependent drinkers, abstinence may be the only option.

I do not think you meet the following criteria: you are not female, young, employed, in a stable situation. What is left? And 1 of 5, even if that is true, are not good odds.

Research into moderate or "controlled" drinking has shown that this strategy can be successful for patients who have not yet developed a pervasive pattern of alcohol abuse, or who have experienced few negative consequences from drinking. It also helps to be young, female, employed, in a stable social situation, and confident about moderating intake. The goal is to help patients set goals and drinking limits before they cross the line into dependence.

Source: Harvard Medical. Even if I am not a professional, my Harvard Medical trumps your experience, which you denigrate by Jim, BUT Laud your own. It seems you are not consistent here. I am trying to help you, wmw, and you keep offering "excuses" NOT solutions to your situation.

1) I’ve not expressed an opinion... I’ve stated a fact. Learn the difference.

2) I’m pretty sure you mean to say “informed” opinion as opposed to “qualified” opinion.
Please look up the difference. If you want to speak like an adult you may want learn what words and phrases actually mean.

3) You have no clue what “credentials” I possess or fail to possess.

Additionally “credentials” is related to but not equivalent with knowledge... a person may have an informed opinion even without having a certified education in a specific area; conversely many “credentialed” people are still dumb. Credentials are useful in some cases but they are not the ‘end-all-be-all’ that you are implying.

4) Finally you’re ignoring the specific point... and the reason you’re doing this is because the statements I am making on this subject are factually correct.

I don’t know any addicts? I’ve never been to a AA meeting?
I’m glad you Dox’d me and were able to clarify these points for me. Thanks.

I’m the asshat...? Yet you’re the admitted “recovering” addict who’s claiming it’s fine for you to drink alcohol, and “all things is moderation” is fine.
OK. We now live in Bizzaro World.

Are you trying to win an argument for the sake not feeling dumb or are you trying to learn and grow?

There’s no ‘trying’ to win with you.
The argument is won with your OP before anyone else even posts.

I’m always trying to learn and grow... but in this case I’m trying to teach and help you learn.
Unfortunately I’m failing.
