Lemme 'splain something'

Postby what,me worry? on Tue Mar 10, 2020 3:45 pm

I create HBO type content

You are all busy tinkering with static basic cable here

So, when I post something provocative it has a place

Like, here's some thing to get high on....

Racism is an economic issue disguised as a moral issue

See there? Right there, I just became Neo moving in 4-D

Are Thortoth, Nomad and WMW all the same guy just playing around as different identities?

This is Deep man...with a capital D!

So let me ask... so isn’t wealth disparity itself a moral issue?

So really...

Racism is an moral issue, disguised as an economic issue, disguised as a moral issue!

This is the moment where Mystery Inc. pulls up in their van, and Shaggy rips off the figurative mask of Economic Issue Man.

As I posted elsewhere, wmw considers himself the current "savior" of this Forum as he posts things that cause others to post a rebuttal. His posts deserve rebuttal because they are generally specious comments that need to be called out as silly and not well made arguments. They are not lucid and are certainly not cogent arguments. Even the basic idea is often silly.

Add wmw to this list: Thorthoth, fake burnie sanders, noMADp. I assume there were others before this list who thought they were saving this Forum for important and intelligent discussion, but instead were merely offering dribble, specious arguments, and controversy. AND where are they NOW?

The Chinese created a Chinese disease to hit the reset button on the world

It's the ultimate reshuffle

In the U.S., it narrows the social gap

Let’s skip the part about the Chinese creating it... I mean that’s a conspiracy theory that likely can’t be proven and can never be proven wrong to a truly committed Believer.

Let’s query the second part...

What makes this a “Chinese” disease?

Are you saying because they created it it’s now officially a “Chinese” disease?

I mean... the creating part is kinda immaterial to labeling it a “disease” or a “Chinese disease”... no?

Like does it only kill Chinese? If it only killed or infected Chinese people then labeling it a “Chinese disease” would make sense. However it seems to be killing people of all nationalities and races... so it’s not really a “Chinese disease” is it?

How so?

what,me worry? wrote:

How so?

I mean you could say it might narrow so sort of social gap by killing people from all income and social brackets... but that doesn’t “narrow” the gap at the end of the day does it? How will it narrow the gap?

If anything a mass disease is likely to widen the gap as its’ effects will disproportionately impact lower and middle income people.

How?

1) There are public schools closing... there is some talk that schools may not even reopen for the rest of the year. So schools will have to decide if they will allow kids to advance not having completed required studies for this year...or hold all kids back. Public schools generally cannot provide home learning as they are not equipped to do this and if they did they cannot disenfranchise students of low income who may not have equal access to the required online tools.

My kids go to a private school... one of the requirements here is internet access and a suitable device. My kids school is already preparing for online learning in the event of extended school closing. Other private schools are doing the same.

So kids from “richer” families will continue to learn while kids from lower and middle income families will not... thus widening the gap.

2) People of means will have more and better access to healthcare and food if this crisis lasts for awhile. This will widen the gap.

3) People of means generally do not live paycheck-to-paycheck and often work jobs they can work from home. People in lower income strata often do live paycheck-to-paycheck... so a loss of income if they become sick or if their employer closes will push them closer to the breaking line. They are more likely to accrue debt or lose housing when these. thing happen. This will widen the gap.

These are just the first 3 things that come to mind... I’m sure there are more.

(BTW... I’m not saying that any of this is “good” I’m just pointing out potential problems that I see or have heard others articulate.)

To be fair, ever heard of the spanish flu?

Wikipedia wrote:Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify with certainty the pandemic's geographic origin.

Wikipedia wrote:Different hypotheses have been made about the origin, with the three main ones being Northern China, a British army base in France and Kansas in the United States.[20]

One of the few regions of the world seemingly less affected by the 1918 flu pandemic was China, where there may have been a comparatively mild flu season in 1918 (although this is disputed, see Around the globe). There were relatively few deaths from the flu in China compared to other regions of the world.[21][22] This has led to speculation that the 1918 flu pandemic originated from China.[23][22][24][25] The relatively mild flu season and lower rates of flu mortality in China in 1918 may be explained due to the fact that the Chinese population had already possessed acquired immunity to the flu virus.

The WHO's guidelines for naming new diseases say that naming them after a country or region should be avoided. Same for naming them after people or animals. Doing so creates an unnecessary stigma attached to whichever place/person/animal the disease is named after.

Please don't edit/leave out key pieces of info when you quote me. The "Spanish Flu", in all probabilties, actually originated in China.
You know what else originated in China? (again, probably, can't know for sure)

The Black Death, also known as the Pestilence, Great Bubonic Plague, the Great Plague.

Yeah. That's right.

Oh I see. You weren't talking about how diseases are named after different places, you were claiming that China starts deadly pandemics.

I think it's funny-ish that you decide that a quote that says the Spanish Flu originated in either the US, the UK or China means it definitely started in China. Most sources I've seen have the first case in Kansas.

During WW1 the Allies and the Central Powers kept tight control of the media about troop conditions. Neutral counties, such as Spain, didn't have these controls and freely reported on the flu. So it was called the Spanish Flu.

My understanding, based on media reports, is that a new disease is usually named for a point of origin, as best as it can be determined. Ebola, for example, was named for a region in Africa. I do not know about swine flu or why it was called S1N1 (or S1N2). Nor the recent Avian Flu. In the case of AIDS, the point of origin is still unknown, for certainty. It was not determined at its discovery (and shortly thereafter.)

There is one more recent outbreak In the past 25 years or so), but its name escapes me at this time.

OK: Research online:

Human Coronavirus Types
Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. There are four main sub-groupings of coronaviruses, known as alpha, beta, gamma, and delta.

The other two diseases: MERS and SARS, noted online at the same source.

Are you saying Megan Markle started COVID-19 as her last 'f*ck you' to the royal family before she snatched Prince Harry away?

Or that the Queen started it to thwart Harry's escape from the UK?

Personally my money's on Megan because as everyone knows she is an EVIL HUSSY.
