If all the oceans were fresh water.
Seems that would help everyone instantly. Is the some advantages to having so much salt in the oceans?
Re: If all the oceans were fresh water.
Well, it would wipe out all the marine life. That might not be good.

Because salt water is life. We carry the oceans within us. Without enough salt in our bodies, we die. We have evolved so that drinking that much salt in the water is dangerous, but that salinity is already in our bodies.
That's why Athletes drink "Gatorade" and not pure water. Salt is removed from the body through sweat.

Re: If all the oceans were fresh water.
simple description: the oceans flow / move / have currents because they are churned by heavier saline flowing down.. so no cool water would get shimmied around to warmer areas & vice versa...
plus all sea life would die... just imagine the stink of the earth's ocean's turning into 1 big bowl of rotting fish soup...
but I am sure JP will come along , say how dumb I am & tell you the exact same thing in a 18 page diatribe with about 45 links..
