I've been watching The Mandalorian, it's actually pretty good. Or maybe since the last Star Wars movies suck, I didn't expect much of it and I was surprised (in a good way). Maybe now I'll have another go at Solo, I stopped watching that one after 10 minutes.

I saw the last installment of the Star Wars series of movies. We can discuss here, if you want with SPOILER ALERTS for those who not yet seen it.

I enjoyed it and it paid proper homage to the actors and characters and the other 8 previous movies in the series. You see and hear references to the other movies in the series. That too was good.

We do learn who Rey IS....GOOD..!

The movie tied up many lose ends and really did not break significant NEW Ground or open many plot lines. It was NOT supposed to do either.

I think I posted some of this in a Forum thread somewhere, BUT, I will JUS mention here:

George Lucas had a series of 9-15 movies when he began Stars Wars (original, now called Episode IV) that was released in 1977. That series of 9 films is over, completing the saga of the Skywalker Family. There will likely be spin-offs of the Star Wars movies in the future, but the story line with Luke, Princess Leia, Hans Solo is over.

Two stand alone movies were made; Rogue One did well at the box office, but not the Hans Solo movie, called Solo, I think. I saw them all. I have not seen all the TV shows and read all the books between all the movies. In fact, an early book had Luke marry Leia, but the author was not aware that they were brother and sister, as per George Lucas. I did not read that book.

The movies have been FUN for me and my family. We enjoyed them and all the things resulting from the movies. My son is a huge fan; we enjoyed watching all of them together. Recently, I even had a younger brother thank me for taking him to the original Star Wars in 1978 or so. He too enjoyed it, despite his reluctance to go see it the first time.

I may look up the Mandalorian this summer, as I will be busy until then.

More:

The Star Wars films show considerable similarity to Japanese Jidaigeki films, as well as Roman mythology. Lucas has stated that his intention was to create in Star Wars a modern mythology, based on the studies of his friend and mentor Joseph Campbell. He has also called the first movie's similarity to the film The Hidden Fortress (Akira Kurosawa) an "homage".

Lucas had already written two drafts of Star Wars when he rediscovered Joseph Campbell's The Hero With a Thousand Faces in 1975 (having read it years before in college). This blueprint for "The Hero's Journey" gave Lucas the focus he needed to draw his sprawling imaginary universe into a single story. Campbell demonstrates in his book that all stories are expressions of the same story-pattern, which he named the Hero's Journey or the monomyth.

Lucas has often cited The Lord of the Rings series as a major influence on Star Wars. Lucas learned from Tolkien how to handle the delicate stuff of myth. Tolkien wrote that myth and fairytale seem to be the best way to communicate morality - hints for choosing between right and wrong - and in fact that may be their primary purpose. Lucas has also acknowledged in interviews that the Gandalf and the Witch-king characters in the Lord of the Rings influenced the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader characters respectively.

The two main problems with the first movie are, much of the special effects look bad. Partially because they were literally inventing special effects during that movie.

Second George couldn't believe they were letting him make it. Because he dId not think he would get a chance to make a second space fantasy film, he mixed in some stuff he really wrote for other parts of the series.

The problem with Solo was casting someone that could not talk like the main guy as the main guy. It would be like using a cat in a movie about a popular dog. You're trying too hard Disney.

‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ – We Need to Talk About This Rose Tico Situation

https://www.thewrap.com/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-episode-ix-we-need-to-talk-about-this-rose-tico-situation-jj-abrams-kelly-marie-tran-harassment/

(This article contains some spoilers for Rose Tico’s role, such that it is, in “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.” I would say these are not major spoilers.)

One of the weirder things that happened in the wake of “The Last Jedi,” which sparked endless online arguments about its merits, is that a group of nerds who disliked the film decided to take their anger out specifically on Kelly Marie Tran, the actress who plays Rose Tico.

It was a bad time caused by bad people. And yet “The Rise of Skywalker” nonetheless feels very much like parts of the film were constructed specifically to cater to those harassers — and the way it takes Rose, who was a main character in the last movie, and dumps her into a minor background role is Exhibit A.

Now, when Rose was first introduced back in “The Last Jedi,” it wasn’t necessarily the cleanest fit. She spent most of the movie with Finn (John Boyega) going on a side adventure that had no real bearing on the main plot and thus, unlike the characters who were in “The Force Awakens,” never actually got to establish herself as part of the new trilogy’s ensemble. She never got to be part of the group, and thus felt kinda extraneous.

That’s not an unfixable problem. John Boyega promised that the main crew of this new trilogy would spend a lot more time together in “The Rise of Skywalker,” so really all that needed to be done was to include Rose in that crew. After all, extraneous or not she was inarguably one of the film’s main characters and even got to deliver a line of dialogue summing up what amounts to the moral of the story. And at the end of “The Last Jedi,” Rose and Finn have basically become a couple, so it would make sense to bring her along on Finn’s adventures with Poe and Rey.

I thought Rose's sister was a better actor. Should have kept her.

Rose doesn't resonate as a leader figure, a combat figure, a wise figure or fun figure. For some reason I think of Velma from Scoby Do when I see her.

Here is another set of ideas on Star Wars:

15 Best Stories Ever Told in the ‘Star Wars’ Universe

....jump to

6. The Rise and Fall and Rise of Revan Thousands of years before the movies, Revan was a Jedi who led the Republic military against invading Mandalorians -- only to turn to the dark side and wage his own war on the Republic, before turning away from the dark and defeating his own armies. That's the very short, very incomplete version. The story of Revan is thoroughly fascinating and ends up lasting hundreds of years across two video games ("Knights of the Old Republic) and a pile of books and comics.

https://www.thewrap.com/top-15-best-sto ... se-photos/

5. The Jabba's Palace Heist in "Return of the Jedi" It's become clear in the last few years that a lot of folks never really got what Luke, Leia, Lando and Chewie were doing during the first portion of "Return of the Jedi" -- and now we have all these thinkpieces about how it was reckless and haphazard. But no, that shit was an impeccable heist. They had a plan, and they pulled it off flawlessly and in style.

I liked Rose and her sister had to bite it to encourage her to do what she did. Rose not having a bigger role this movie is bs whining.

There is a woman in The Mandalorian who kicks ass. I don't remember her name but her character is way better in every way.

The older sister had great writing, acting, stage presence and a great plot purpose. Maybe they should have been twin sisters with the older one playing both.

How many kids on Holloween want to go as Rose?

The last 3 had no single vision and suffered s a result.

There was too much sucking up to fans... which hurt the story and didn’t serve the characters.

There was too much reliance on old tropes.

There was too much deviation from established cannon about how the ‘Universe’ worked.

The other thing they messed up is the Jedi Temple. It should have been filed with life, peace and tranquility. Think Hawaii with birds. Instead it was a huge concrete building in the middle of Manhattan during rush hour.
