US to Impose 100% Tariff on French Imports

Postby saxitoxin on Mon Dec 02, 2019 9:19 pm

France has illegally attempted to tax American high technology like Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon. In response the U.S. will now begin applying 100% tariffs on France's highest tech products like Cheese and commemorative refrigerator magnets of the Eiffel Tower.

The U.S. government on Monday said it may slap punitive duties of up to 100% on $2.4 billion in imports from France of Champagne, handbags, cheese and other products, after concluding that France’s new digital services tax would harm U.S. tech companies.

The public has until January 14 to suggest French products to add to the tariff list. Requests for French products to be taxed can be sent to:

Office of the United States Trade Representative
600 17th Street NW
Washington, DC 20508
USA

I don't want to pick on your guy but he can't figure out what products come from France without public input?

so basically companies that are making business on the french market can do a bit of tax evasion using ireland and other loopholes, while others are subject to french tax?
Sounds like an 8 year old throwing the board game because he's been asked to play by the same rules as mum dad and older sis. yawn.

the trick is that you just let them starve to death, you throw in some deseased cows with catapults and you just wait while not putting your troops in danger. OOOh! they resisted X month. Well it was just strategically a better choice to sit and wait.

Sometimes. Not always. Maintaining an army in the field is an expensive proposition, and medieval economies were hard-pressed to sustain it. If a war would drag on, quite often the attacker would run out of money to feed his troops and be starving just as bad as the people in the castle.

Sure, since France is an EU member it could send Champagne to Ireland, relabel it "product of Ireland," and then import it to the U.S. and avoid the tariff. However, good luck getting any American to pay $100/bottle for sparkling wine that says "made in Ireland" on the bottle. Or a premium on "made in Bulgaria" Roquefort.

Anyway, due to your insolence I have submitted a recommendation to place a 100% tariff on betiko. That's more than even the 80% tariff imposed on mrswdk (which was leveled to fund important public health campaigns needed after any of his visits).

I think the most patriotic thing to do for an american is to buy champagne then. Basically french are not getting more money, but the US is making 6 times more revenues on these bottles. Not only you can throw it to the poor that can’t afford such things, but also you are making america GA. Win win trump style

Well part of the army can go raid nearby villages and rape fine women to support the war effort. Then make shifts waiting in front of the sieged castle. Maybe use 8/8/8 hours shifts. Win win win!

No shit. They did a lot of that. But villages are not some bottomless pit that can be raided over and over again. There's typically one harvest a year. When it's gone it's gone. After that, they eat salted stuff and smoked stuff and dried stuff, but it doesn't last forever, either. When things get bad they start to eat oxen that should be saved for plowing next year's fields, and cows that should be saved for giving milk, and chickens that should be saved for giving eggs. When all that's gone, there's nothing, and now they're looking at 10 years of no milk, no eggs, and planting fields without plowing them, before the populations are slowly rebuilt.

I don't think you have any idea how quickly a peaceful nation can be turned into a quagmire of death.

BoJo has an election coming up. If that's actually a legit promise, Britain will have to pay 100% tariffs on whatever the hell it exports to the U.S., Cadbury eggs and musical theater shows about talking cats I guess. But it's probably just electioneering.

I was going to say 'a constructive attitude towards relations with China' but the US stopped importing that on sometime around 1949.

France is the third weapon exporter in the world behind the US and Russia, and obviously the US doesn't buy shit to France, and France doesn't buy shit to the US.

Also, France is the country with the most military victories in the history of nations, and your country wouldn't be independent if it wasn't for us, so big yawn at your lack of general knowledge.

and I didn't even know Peugeot (pronounced Puhjo) made pick ups, you made me look it up and I was surprised to see that they build one in partnership with a chinese car maker for the south american market.
Peugeot pretty much owns Chrysler now, hope it doesn't hurt. I wonder if Chryslers, Jeeps, Dodge and all are going to be sold for twice the price?

No, baguettes must be fresh. Even an hour is a long time in the life of a great one. I was going to move the wife's mobile command center around.
