I would like to know something, just a thought and thinking outside the “rules”, what is the point sanctioning a member to post on old thread? (Unless is just to bring a thread back without interest). Why not locking threads after the time considered “beyond” the rules if the site don’t like bringing “old light” back?
Or what is considered so bad to post on old thread when you could get old member to appears from age being out of the site?
Is it preferable to create more thread, duplicate thread, triplicate threads that takes more data overall?

No offense here just try to understand this rule...don’t reply “it is what it is, it is the rule, period” because this is not the reason of my post

Okay, just for clarity.

In the old site rules, necrobumping was an offense. Those rules have been reformed. We don't normally punish necrobumping. It's no longer an offense in and of itself. It can become offensive if you do it so often that you start to annoy people. If you are obviously not adding any new material to the thread, but just bumping it for the sake of bumping it, that tends to piss people off and can draw you a ban under the "intentionally or continually" omnibus rule.

if you are intentionally or continually making this community less enjoyable for others, you may be removed from it.

It gets annoying if you do so much of it that people are spending a lot of time reading crappy old threads they don't care about. On the other hand, if you use it judiciously and once in a blue moon find a delightful old thread that makes people laugh or that brings back good memories for them, they might thank you.

Now, some more detail. First about the old rule. It was never an offense, even in the old days, to bump an old thread if you have meaningful new material to add to it. The offense was described thusly: "Necrobumping (bringing dead forum topics back to life) if no new meaningful content is being added." So even back then, if you did have meaningful material to add to a subject, you were allowed to do so.

Then, as now, if you have meaningful new content to add to a thread, go ahead. It isn't an offense and never was.

If you don't have anything worth adding, then it can become offensive. Once in a while, as a joke, peopled do it and we don't worry about it. But once again, if you push it and go too far, you can be removed.

Thanks Duke, the main reason I have asked is not mainly pertaining this Forum but for instance Tournament, Clan or whatever other area of this site, just making sure how deep is that “rule”. While I was Team leader I found myself reading some “old” good stuff from years and good material to bring back up rather than writing a brand new topic.

I remember someone making some truly excellent Beers Of The World threads. I brought a bunch of them forward just because I was hoping for some additional conversation about beers. Wicked asked me to stop because she was supposed to enforce the necro bump rule which back then often triggered a "forum vacation".

I was sad but I cut it out for a while.

I like that sometimes I can bring up a really old thread on occasion and it's somewhat ok.
