Always focus cities on Production, when possible.

I haven't gotten V or VI yet. Of the ones I've played, IV is by far the best, but as I haven't played V or VI, who knows? They might be even better.

My all-time favourite Civ-type game, though, would be Alpha Centauri. It isn't part of the main list, but is definitely a member of the family.

Other games in the family which also deserve to be on the list would be Civilization Call to Power and Call to Power II, as well as Civilization: the Card Game.

I had V but the graphics wouldn't work properly on my old laptop, for some reason. So I gave up and went back to IV. I've heard the game play isn't as deep on the later games though (e.g. some of the game play around espionage, religion, corporations etc. has been taken out).

Although, I do like that V and VI don't let you stack units and create those ridiculous stacks of doom.

They finally came. out with V (I think it was V) for Mac.

I was running a Windows simulator just to play Civ.

Civ 2 was my first experience with the game.

Anyone every play “Star Trek: Birth of the Federation”?

I will always have a soft spot for playing civ 2, if only because it was so cute to have phalanxes damage bombers during defense.
I liked the Vox Populi Mod for civ 5, but it broke on my computer, which was not good. I am a hardcore civ 6 stan now.

Base 5 didn't have the above, but they come with the essential Brave New World expansion except for corporations which only come through mods AFAIK.

6 has all of them except for corporations, but get Gathering Storm if you want super-cool things like volcano eruptions and climate change (super-cool of course only being in-game, not IRL where it's all a conspiracy run by 98% of scientists)

Civ IV wins \(^0^)/

Also you get climate change in Civ IV as well. I don't know how climate change works on 6 but in IV it's basically just land terts gradually being replaced by desert, and it only really becomes an issue if people are firing nukes around.

Yes I agree, we should all play a group game of civ 5.

I am torn between 4 and 5. I liked stacking units in 4 but 5 has single units getting much farther advanced, giving you the chance to build a strike force of elite units to crack hard targets. Ain't got to 6 yet. Missed turning an opponent's turf into craters with bombers in 3. Logged many thousands of hours on civ. I also liked building armies on 3, which allowed you to fight your way back into a game when you had been outstripped in tech or territory.
