Thanos Snapped and...

... Disney / Marvel made a Billion Dollars!

Discuss.

Please consider this a free form thread.

We can talk about Marvel, Disney, Stan Lee, etc; or you can finish the sentence and talk about what you’d want to happen with ‘The Snap’.

(Note I realize global opening weekend box office for Endgame was really 1.2 Billion, and that’s just this latest movie, not part one or any of the other movies in the ‘series’. I just think it sounds better saying ‘a Billion’.)

How much taxes did Disney paid in federal, state and local?

Thanks, I did enjoy the movie.

I encourage you to dip you toes in, the water is nice. Try the first Iron Man movie. It’s pretty good. Even non-comic book fans have given it positive reviews, and it’s not too “fantastical”.

Here’s a link to their Income Statement...
https://www.thewaltdisneycompany.com/th ... scal-2018/

It looks like (for Federal and State income tax) they paid $1.6 Billion in 2018 and $4.4 Billion in 2017. Course I could be reading wrong.

I’m not a tax attorney nor am I your personal “research bitch”, so if you want more detailed answers you can get them yourself.

Regardless it’s a lot, and doesn’t factor in sales taxes paid by product sales, nor does it include income taxes of employees (direct or indirect / subcontractors).

IDK the answer. I was ‘goosed’ by Donald Duck at WDW, but I was an adult and I liked it. I’ve convinced myself it was a cute chick in the suit.

I'm really done with comic book movies.

Like most kids, I liked comic books. I was a big fan of Batman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Green Lantern. As I grew up, the illogical nature of comic book universes started to annoy me more and more, and I read them less and less.

Still, there was a certain nostalgia factor, and when the first Batman movie came out I rushed to see it. It wasn't too bad; a bit disappointing but not horrible. Then the next Batman movie came out, with a different actor and a different director portraying a radically different Batman. Now we're up to what -- about five movie Batmans, all with completely different personalities? The suspension of disbelief is difficult enough the first time around, but when you have these glaring differences it becomes totally impossible.

Spiderman was another one. I was a huge Spiderman fan as a kid, so when the Spiderman movie came out I was very enthusiastic about seeing it. Like the first Batman movie, it was imperfect but not horrible. I was content. But then there was another, and another, and another, again with different actors and different directors having different visions. It's all a bit too much. After a while it becomes impossible to ignore the fact that all these remakes have nothing to do with creating art and are just a cash grab to pick on people's nostalgia.

Of course, Hollywood's penchant for needless remakes isn't limited to superheroes. A few years ago one of my favourite movies of all time, the Wicker Man, was remade into an absolute abortion. Edward Woodward's brilliant portrayal of a pious and tortured hero was replaced by Nicholas Cage at his shallow worst. It got worse from there. An absolute criminal desecration of a classic. Then they remade The Producers, another classic desecrated. Now I'm told there's another remake of A Star is Born. Hell, who thought it was necessary to remake Deathrace 2000? Just blatant cash grabs, and each version is less palatable than the last.

The only comic book movie I enjoyed lately was Guardians of the Galaxy. I never saw the comic book, so I didn't know it was a comic book movie until after the fact. Maybe that saved it for me. Still, in due course of time I'm sure they'll reboot that one with a whole new cast and ruin that too.

I was taken to see the film yesterday. It was much better for me than the last one Infinity War,
show
it made me angry I had sat through such a long movie to see that.

I had avoided Iron Man because I found the old Iron Man stuff boring. I finally watched it and they are probably my second favorite.

I really love Guardians of the Galaxy. I guess if you see the trailer and don't laugh thinking, "I should watch that." Maybe it's just not your kind of movie.

There are just too many and I am not a theatre film buff like my wife but it was pretty good for such a long movie.

I particularly enjoyed the very end with Thor and Peter Quill, Hillarious. All the scenes with Thor were excellent comedy and that's what I like.

I understand. I think of them as a genre like ‘western’ or ‘heist movie’ or ‘horror’.

Right now we are loaded with this genre, that will go away as tastes change. They don’t release new ‘westerns’ every week... but you do get one occasionally, and sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad. That’s how to view ‘comic book movies’.

There’s also a different between ‘comic book movies’ and ‘superhero movies’.

You’re beef is likely move about ‘superhero’ movies than about ‘comic book movies’. I’ll just give one example, ‘Atomic Blonde’ is a comic book move based on a graphic novel... but it’s not a superhero movie, it’s more of a spy thriller.

They recast / reimagine characters all the time.... James Bond, Dracula, Dr. Who, Etc.... they do it for high art too, think of Shakespeare’s plays or musicals. This is no different. You can choose a favorite version.... or you can just choose one... or none. Your call. I like it.

My favorite characters are Rocket and Drax but all the Thor scenes were the best parts of this movie for me.

When Hulk and Rocket find him... That whole sequence was awesome.
