saxitoxin wrote:Sorry but the reaction in NZ has been so alien it's hard for me to comprehend. They had a memorial in which they performed that Haka thing which, through sheer repetition, they've already established to the outside world is their football cheerleading dance routine (yes I know it used to be something sacred and noble at one time but now it's the pre match entertainment that follows the best dressed fan contest).
It would be like, after 9/11, if the Dallas Cowboy dance team showed up at the Washington National Cathedral and did a high kick routine set to Eye of the Tiger.
Then you have every NZ er interviewed on the news sounding like they're reading a Tourism NZ brochure. They all spend five seconds talking about what they saw followed by five minutes talking about how great NZ is.
Finally you have the NZ government responding to the whole thing by trying to terrorize their own population by asking ISPs to hand over user data on anyone posting the "manifesto."
Jamaica Arbuckle or whatever her name is seems to want everyone to believe she's the chief victim by virtue of proximity and title as she prances around dressed like a cross between Evita and Benzair Bhutto with a gaggle of photographers behind her, essentially using the attack to launch her campaign for UN Secretary-General. Fifty individuals were attacked, not the NZ government or anyone carrying a NZ passport. Jamaica's message, though, is that all New Zealanders should feel free to step up and grab a slice of the victimhood cake and we all have to entertain this narcissism.

You are a fucking moron with zero empathy. If you had any fucking clue outside you tiny world, you would understand the Haka's place in NZ society and that is used as a show of unity, togetherness and support in time of threat. To equate it to cheerleaders is just ignorant. What happened here two days ago was a terrorist attack - for you to denigrate the event with your narrow minded, puerile attempts at satire is appalling. The attack in Christchurch killed more people on a per capita basis than your 9/11 - no one would have ever broken down the deaths in that horrific event to who was carrying what type of passport ...for fucks sakeThe victims ranged for 2 years old to 70..they are not '50 individual' but a group of people who were gunned down exercising their rights to live and worship our country.. And to cap it off, you suggest that we here are all indulging in victimhood.... You are a fucking cunt.

I have empathy with the actual victims of the attack. I don't have empathy with everyone who is declaring themselves a victim on the basis of some shared definition of victimhood. I don't have empathy with Jandice Agricola running around looking like she's auditioning to star in an Evita revival while ordering her political opponents rounded up. After 9/11, which was severely more serious than this, the U.S. didn't threaten to jail anyone found reading Al Qaeda's statement of responsibility.
And, sorry, the spiritual nobility of the Haka is hard to believe when you use it for any old thing - most frequently, it seems, dancing around in a stadium surrounded by signs advertising Mastercard and Tostitos nacho chips in front of a bunch of drunkos spilling beer on themselves. At that point it's no different than the Miami Heat dance squad.
You don't see an adherent Muslim performing Salat for everyone's entertainment during half-time of a sporting event, nor do you see a bunch of dancers prancing around during the middle of a Catholic mass. The Haka can be one or the other, it can't be both. The University of Illinois used to perform the Three-in-One dance before their home basketball games and then stopped doing it because it made it into a pedestrian demonstration - it turned it into a fun little cheerleader routine. The Haka is a fun little cheerleader routine. Totally inappropriate for a memorial service.

How awful. Imagine you're the grieving family and you have a platoon of adult men screaming and jumping around at the funeral doing a sports dance. A military funeral procession should be quiet and dignified.

You ignorant troll - it is ultimate form of respect in Maoridom and for New Zealanders, and a massive part of NZ military custom and history, and our country's culture. You don't have to respect it, much as you have elected to not to respect or empathise with the tragedy that occurred here two days ago. Keep your crass insensitivity to yourself.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Michael reached out to the message board operator and owner of Kiwi Farms, explaining, āI am hoping that you can help us with an investigation the New Zealand Police are working on. On 15 March 2019 there was a shooting in New Zealand with multiple fatalities at two mosques in the city of Christchurch. The alleged offender in this matter is a Brenton TARRANT.ā
āAt around the time of the shooting there were a number of posts and links posted on kiwifarms.net <http://kiwifarms.net> relating to the shooting and TARRANT,ā the detective specified. āWe would like to preserve any posts and technical data including IP addresses, email addresses etc linked to these posts pending a formal legal request.ā
Kiwi Farms operator Joshua Moon answered immediately, āIs this a joke? Iām not turning over information about my users. The person responsible for posting the manifesto PDF is myself,ā Moon admitted. āI feel real bad for you guys, youāve got a quiet nation and now this attack is going to be the first thing people think of for the next 10 years when they hear the name New Zealand, but you canāt do this. Tell your superiors theyāre going to make the entire country and its government look like clowns by trying to censor the Internet,ā Moon admonished.
āYouāre a small, irrelevant island nation barely more recognizable than any other nameless Pacific sovereignty,ā Moon continued in his response to the New Zealand police request made 17 March 2019. āYou do not have the clout to eradicate a video from the Internet and you do not have the legal reach to imprison everyone whose posted it. If anyone turns over to you the information theyāre asking for theyāre not only cowards, but theyāre fucking idiots,ā Moon stressed, and referred to himself as a US expat, and that his site āis contained within a Florida company.ā

It is kinda funny how you're using the US response to 9/11 as your benchmark for 'how to not overreact to a terrorist attack'.

What does this mean for playing the US national anthem at games? Is that just a cheerleading routine too then, now?

Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, a self-described white supremacist, has been charged with murder.
