UK resists American pressure to bully China

The UK's intelligence chiefs have made clear that America's attempts to bully China and by extension Huawei are nothing more than insidious protectionism and recommended that the UK Government refuse to take part in Cold War 2.0:

Any risk posed by involving the Chinese technology giant Huawei in UK telecoms projects can be managed, cyber-security chiefs have determined.

The UK's National Cyber Security Centre's decision undermines US efforts to persuade its allies to ban the firm from 5G communications networks.

As first reported by the Financial Times, the conclusion by the National Cyber Security Centre - part of the intelligence agency GCHQ - will feed into the review.

The decision has not yet been made public, but the security agency said in a statement it had "a unique oversight and understanding of Huawei engineering and cyber security".

Seems like the entire UK government is as split about China as it is about everything else.

The chancellor will not visit China after Beijing reacted with fury to the defence secretary Gavin Williamson’s plan to send a British aircraft carrier to the country’s backyard.

Philip Hammond was expected to undertake the trade mission next week – a vital part of efforts to build the UK’s global trading links ahead of Brexit – but the Treasury announced he will not go.

It follows Mr Williamson’s “gunboat diplomacy”, when he announced HMS Queen Elizabeth would be sent to the Pacific and that Britain was prepared to use “lethal” force to deter countries that “flout international law”.

The speech was widely seen as a threat to China over its expansion in the South China Sea and triggered a protest by the Chinese ambassador to the foreign office.

...The row suggests a split between ministers, including Mr Hammond and Jeremy Hunt, the foreign secretary, who want close relations with China – and hawks such as Mr Williamson who see Beijing as a security threat.

Canada is kinda the same way.

Some people prefer to follow U.S. direction and want to expel Huawei, those same people support the U.S. in their attempt to overthrow Maduro etc, others see the benefits of working and trading with China.

Huawei has threatened to pull out of any country they are not wanted, In Canada thats alot of jobs and investment.

Another point, Canada has oil, they are having issues with pipelines to tidewater, east is out of the question right now, west might be possible, but assuming that gets resolved, who will they sell quantity to if not China?

Japan just signed with Russia (hey look monkie..I mentioned Russia) and have the capacity to deliver all oil to the east they need.
Why would China play games with Canada?

Iran also has plenty of oil, so does Venesuela, the east just isnt going to need Canadian oil with their games concerning Huawei and other Chinese investments.
(just for monkie... Iran sells oil for gold)

So it looks like the question for nations is, follow the american dream of hegemony or work peacefully with the world.

At least we got a front row seat.

The UK was one of the first European countries (along with Germany and the Netherlands) to break ranks with the US and sign up to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, following which pretty much every other country in Europe has followed suit (although the US has successfully bullied such heavyweights as Czechia into staying away). The UK, France and Germany also sided with China and Russia in refusing to join America when it withdrew from the Iranian Nuclear Deal.

The US also tried to pressure the UK into freezing Chinese companies out of UK nuclear power plant construction and was roundly ignored.

Europe has finally woken up and decided it's bored of being a pawn in America's games. Hurray for Europe and hurray for longevity of China-Europe harmonious relations! (^0^)
