Please give it up. They will never allow themselves to believe in God. The thought of being judged for committing sin is absolutely reprehensible to them. They hated Jesus and they will hate his followers. They will come up with every smart-aleck response to counter whatever you say. Move on to other subjects.

A tad harsh, dont you think?

Not at all. Are you honestly going to tell me that you would take Jay, or any other Christian's argument on any subject seriously. If you are intellectually honest with yourself the answer would be NO! You have no intention of giving his argument credibility. Instead, you and other atheists here are just going to come up with more hypotheticals and cynical remarks to make light of the Christian position. You gang up on him and use constant insults...

Just citing some ancient book is not an argument and gets old and very annoying really quickly.

mr. incrediball wrote:so...racism=bad homophobicness=good

you lead a confusing and sad life, jay, and i pity you...

nagerous wrote:QFT, what this knucklehead (jay) does not realise is that unlike rape, incest, murder, paedophilia and all that other fucked up shit homosexuality is something where both people involved are consenting and no-one is there against their own will. He is as bad as those chavs on the street that go 'fukin hate gays' and when you ask why just go 'coz its wrong..' Basing your life on a book is a sad way to live your life. Jay should have some free will and not just conform to ideas stated in a novel. Hes as bad as the 1920 Christians in the Ku Klux Klan that promoted racist ideals and lynched black people and used the BIBLE to justify their views.

I believe the skeptics here are about as interested in a philosophical discussion as Donald Trump is intent on getting a decent haircut. Neutrino, not one of you is actually interested in what points Jay tries to make. You're all just waiting for the next round of smart-aleck remarks that you can post in response to what he has to say.

Jay, I know that you think you are "taking a stand for truth" and your intentions are good. What you are engaging here is actually counter-productive to what being a follower of Christ is. Almost none of them would ever be convinced to change their minds, regardless of how well you would articulate the gospel. THEY...DO...NOT...BELIEVE...IT. They think it is rubbish! Jay, are you getting it yet?!! They do not want to believe so stop bugging them about it. You are also doing a disservice to the rest of us Christ-followers by indulging in these pointless debates. It only gives them a forum to vent their anti-God ideologies.

I'm asking you, Jay, to stop posting and rebutting what they're saying. The CC staff has graciously given us our own forum to post our thoughts and to encourage each other. It's a private forum, and your time would be better spent there learning and bouncing ideas off of people who believe as you do. Try finding some other subjects to talk about. Let the skeptics be skeptics and let us be who we are.

Wow, you managed to make all athiests sound like christian-hating, child-eating maniacs, who's only reason for existance is to make up smart-aleck remarks about jays fabously well put together arguments.

As I have stated may times previously, I, for one, am always open to other possibilities and ways of thinking. The reason I havent converted to christianity is because no-one has yet supplied reasonable proof for god's existance.

You say: God is our supreme master and should be obeyed completly.
I say: Why?

You say: Because he created humanity.
I say: Well he certainly didnt do a very good job of it.

You say: That is free will. All the mistakes are our own and not god's.
I say: What's the point of free will if all we manage to do with it is turn a perfectly good planet into a mildly radioactive hell-hole for a few millenia?

You say: Because it is only through our own efforts that we may become perfect and ascend to heaven, etc. etc.
I say: Why dosent god just make us think that we are perfectly happy? It would be so much simpler if he just created a perfect humanity and skipped all the woe and unhappyness that we have caused ourselves. If he can't fool a few hairless apes into thinking they are happy, I dont think he deserves to be worshiped.

etc. etc.

That pretty much sums up why I dont believe in god. If he were truly benevolent, then he would just delete all suffering and woe.

The main reason that no-one is paying any attention to jay's posts is because they require a huge amount of faith to make sense. Im sure to him they are as clear as day, but from this side the only possible answer is "Wha...?" (I'm not implying that he is insane; for those who want to misinterpret me)

Debating religion is essentially pointless, (since neither side is very likely to change their opinions) but it does allow
both sides (or at least, me) to mentally flesh out their reasons for believing things.
That, and, if you are on the side which appears to outside observers to be winning, (neither side will admit defeat) it is damn fun.

luns, I will take any logically sound argument seriously, "the bible can be interpreted to say so and so" is not logically sound and that's pretty much jay's only argument these days, a year ago it used to be different.

This topic is making me turn Gay, having to see it on the first page all the time is forcing homosexuality upon me, I feel the need to suddenly stop getting turned down by women and accepting horny men as my fate.

Actually reason so many gang up on Jay, is due to the fact that because of his religion an inequality is being past as law, without those who are truly being effected by it having a choice to decide for themselves.

it would appear in this forum that we have the majority, and would like to know why a christian is taking away our Free will to "sin" instead of focusing on his own?
(wich to some of us is the greater evil)

Personally I am not a christian, and cant wait for Jesus to come :P

Satan is the #1 enemy of all mankind. But, he offended God first, so I leave that judgement, along with all judgment, to God.

If he has a serious conversation....yes. The problem is that every argument boils down to "my god says so, that's why I do this/that".

It is possible for all to be saved. But Satan isn't gonna turn from his goal of destroying us all. Do I love the Devil then? In a way, I have to respect his determination. I mean seriously, anybody who has the audacity to think he can fight God and win has got some major guts.

Do I love Satan? No, at least, not as a brother, certainly not as I do God and most certainly not as a loved-one. The closest he gets is my pity and a prayer every now and again (as Jesus told us to do for all our enemies). 'Though I give the guy props for the effort his puts into his work, I wish that he didn't have such hate to feel the need to do it.

Now, how bout you? Do you hate all practicing Christians, or just the ones who don't back down?

To somewhat echo the sentiments on sin that have been liberally applied to homosexuality throughout this thread... I don't hate the pious, but i don't hold any respect for piety.

Not really. As long as your actions or opinions dont impact myself or anyone else in any significant way, I dont care what the hell you do.

I've only really been participating in this thread (if my measly contributions can be termed 'participating ') because:
a) It's fun and i'm bored.
b) I was vvveeerrrryyyyy confused about the entire "God says I should hate these people and I shall" thing.

I don't hate religious people. I just think they are no different from the ancient Egyptians worshiping the sun or the Aztecs worshiping Quetzalcoatl. Just different inventions for different eras.

I took out the part I wanted to agree with.

I think this is the same as what I believe Paul said. "God is not a respecter of men."

I'm not either, though sometimes that causes me to go over the line and be mean to them.

Vengence is God's domain. He called me to love, not hate. Any 'christian' who says otherwise is lying or is ignorant of the written word.

Thanks for clarifing. Nice to know who is a god-hater and who is indifferant.

Where is that verse written?

Its actually Romans 2:11 and in the KJV bible the wording is "For there is no respect of persons with God.". Taken out of context you could almost say that supported my position ;)

The whole of that verse is quite relevant to this discussion and can be interpreted as condemning the man who judges another. In the case of homosexuality the judgements being made on others supported by contested interpretations of a few select paragraphs of verse are in the words of Romans 2:1, "inexcusable"...
