Incest

Postby 2dimes on Sun Jun 10, 2007 10:12 am

Since this topic came up in another thread.

As for these two, the article states it's illegal in Germany so how about moving somewhere it's not illegal?

Incest is disgusting. Put aside the fact that it may cause genetic defects, it's plain and simple gross. How can a normal person think it's ok to do it? Yuck.

Edit: After reading the article, the couple didn't grow up together, they met each other for the first time as adults. Hmm, in that case, they don't see each other as siblings, and I think that the only problem in that case is for them to procreate and breed defected offspring.

Personally, if I ever found out that my girlfriend was somehow blood related to me, I'd be very troubled, but I don't think I would break up with her because of it.

Now, in the case of the couple from the article, if they are truly in love with each other, then it's not as terrible as siblings who grow up together and then fall in love with each other. In cases such as the latter, it's truly disgusting.

uh huh...so...you are admitting you aren't normal then? because you clearly state that normal people think that it is not okay, and in fact plain and simply gross...and then you said that if your girlfriend was somehow blood related, you wouldn't break up with her...kinda contradictory...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as for my belief...people should be allowed to love whoever they want...who are we to tell them otherwise? i can understand the child genetic defect thing, but if they agree to never have children (as in to never actually have their own...they can still adopt and stuff) why shouldn't they be allowed to be together...

Well life isn't all black and white. I said that if 2 people grew up together it would be disgusting and I condemn it in this case.

The article describes a unique case, in which the said couple didn't know each other as children, and therefor they didn't develop any sibling emotions towards each other. While very disturbing, it would be a shame to throw away true love. They could still live with each other and adopt children instead of having children together and risk their health.

I feel honoured to be the cause of this new thread lol

I am obviously completely against incest. Your poll doesn't mate a lot of sense though, yes or no to what exactly?? I just assumed the question was something like 'is incest OK' and voted no.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Actually marriage between cousins was pretty common in last century's eastern Europe.

I hope they stopped doing it though :)

Yup, coming from an Eastern European background myself I can assure you that marriage between cousins isn't at all unheard of. My grand father's parents were cousins if I remember correctly. Hope it hasn't screwed with me too badly :?

Indeed, it's thought that closely blood-related people who have never met until adulthood are likely to be more powerfully attracted to each other. Genetic sexual attraction, it's called.

I believe it. I remember meeting one of my female first-cousins for the first time, when I was 20. She smokes 30 fags a day and swears like a trooper. Damn, she was hot.

It's still common in many cultures today. And it isn't illegal in the UK.

If that is the case, then I surely hope they don't born deaf and even worse.. It's surely irresponsible on their part, that reason alone justifies the German law.

BBC News World wrote:Patrick, who is 30 years old, was adopted and, as a child, he lived in Potsdam.

He did not meet his mother and biological family until he was 23. He travelled to Leipzig with a friend in 2000, determined to make contact with his other relatives.

He met his sister Susan for the first time, and according to the couple, after their mother died, they fell in love.

"When I was younger, I didn't know that I had a brother. I met Patrick and I was so surprised," said Susan, who is 22.

we are all related, keep mixing the blood and eventually we will adapt into perfection or into stagnation.

im not morally against it, i just find the thought of it kinda disgusting and weird. also i dont believe the theory we came from 2 people, as their children would have had to pro-create and so on which is all very incestous and i dont believe any species can evolve well enough to survive let alone become the dominant force of the planet that way........

Do you believe that Adam and Eve ate the damn apple?
Does that mean were all being punished for what someone else did?(we are anyway) If we are all children of Adam, are there alternative worlds unlike our own?

I'm against incest and I'm agnostic. Kind of ruins your 'joke' right there don't it?

What about bestiality love? Or hell, even necrophiliac love? I find it funny that liberals and necrophiliacs are so closely related.

As for incest being an uncommon cause of birth defects, I agree. But then again, you aren't taking into account the fact that incest is very uncommon in most parts of the world.

Incest doesn't mean having it off with somebody that was last related to you 10 000 generations earlier. To suggest that we will either evolve into perfection or stagnation is similarly impossible. I suggest you actually read something on evolution before spouting this crap.
