Very COOL, wolf. Thanks for sharing your story.
The best part is to be in the 100% (aka Totality); that would be cool to experience. As stated above, I was only 86% max in Richmond, VA area. I make the pinhole "Camera" for my wife and her co-workers. They appreciated it and they said it worked well, IF there is ONLY the pinhole and that the one with larger hole did not work well. I made 4 in all and tried one with larger hole and that hole was MUCH bigger than I planned. LoL
Anyway, to see the 2-3 minutes of darkness and see animals go "Crazy" not knowing what to do would be SOOOO cool. I am glad you enjoyed the day, getting a good meal and being able to share the experience with others. I learned that my brother-in-law now lives near where the next one will be, so I told him to buy an RV and steaks to grill for us to camp out for the next eclipse......LoL.

Original plan was to stop in Dahlonega but traffic had been surprisingly light on 400 and pretty much non-existent once I hit back roads so I found myself all the way into the totality range and only missed the first 10 minutes of it starting it's journey across the sun. The creeping itself was pretty cool even though through those glasses I could barely see through but the totality event itself was amazing. A deep twilight with animals going crazy all around me, the suns corona and the brightest stars and a planet (I'm pretty sure it was Venus but didn't confirm) visible. It's impossible to explain if you've never seen one in person, even replications fall well short. Only 3 minutes or so long but I think that might have been the coolest thing I've ever seen.
The rest of the day was pretty exciting as well. I stayed up there at the border of Georgia and North Carolina (crossing over back and forth a couple times, I think I even crossed over into Tennessee at one point), enjoying the scenery and got a late lunch/early dinner at a local place in Blairsville on my way back. I did end up sitting in traffic most of the rest of the day but well worth the trip and would have gladly sat in traffic even longer if it meant seeing another one.
Also, I've noticed no damage to my vision, so that's pretty cool.
