Maybe we're talking about something different. Kebabs to me don't involve any kind of bread. They are pieces of meat and peppers impaled on a stick.

In much of Europe they are served in a pita wrap like a Donair here. Sure, I can get a platter with Donair meat, no pita, but if I said, "Hey lets get donairs." I think you would expect it to be served in pita bread.
